snookymom Posted April 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2009 We are leaving this Saturday (yeah) & I know we will want room service for coffee in the mornings. Is it customary to tip like we do in a hotel or is this included as part of the gratuity that is added on?
AmoMondo Posted April 20, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2009 I've always taken the view that it is included in the gratuity that is added to your account. I invariably tip my room steward a bit extra at the end of the cruise anyway. I'm european, so may do things differently from those on the other side of "the pond" have a great trip
owl61 Posted April 20, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2009 The great majority of considerate people tip for room service as and when it is rendered. Carry some $1 bills with you and replenish them in the casino. In tipping there will always be contrarians, usually Brits and Aussies who generally do not share the same attitude about tipping as do the majority of other societies, including the milieu in which you will be travelling. snookymom Posted April 20, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Ok great. We didn't want to look like we don't know what we're doing. (Which we dont!) Thanks.
noblepa Posted April 20, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 20, 2009 We just returned from the MSC Orchestra 4/11-4/18 sailing. However, we never used room service. I can't speak for MSC specifically, but I do know that many other cruise lines (all the Carnival-owned lines, for example), do NOT include room service in the distribution of the automatic tips. We have always tipped $2-$5, depending on the size of the order. Even if I were to find out that it IS included in the auto-tips, I don't think I would change my habits. Those people work awfully hard and an extra couple of bucks certainly isn't going to cause me any hardship. Paul
IwannaGo Now Posted April 21, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2009 I was on that sailing, and used room service every morning. The first nite I filled out the door card. Coffee was right on time, but woke me up ! For the rest of the week I would call when I woke up, and within ten minutes they were there with my coffee, and whatever else I ordered. I tipped $2 each time, and got the same guy most mornings. They need it much more than I do, and they appreciate it greatly . So tip...please
