Great post. thank you. We are going on the Splendor in July. Good details. a couple of questions though. I read on Carnival about putting my Carnival Luggage tags on before getting to the terminal. Where do I get those? I can't find that on the website. how did you get yours? Also, I see that you used Supershuttle. So even though you were late getting off the ship, did they wait or did you have to call for one that morning??

They should be within your docs, you can print out as many as you need. In my documents, they were the last page. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the review!

Hey 8290 was my kids' room right before you. Did you happen to find a black sock in there?!! LOL We lost one and couldn't find it! :p

LOL!! No, sorry, no sock when we arrived, but I'm pretty sure we added to the "orphaned sock" collection they must have! :D

Thanks for the awsome review-----question for you, I am traveling with my 17 year old daughter on the Splendor- Mexican Rivera and was wondering about my daughter attending shows with me while they are serving alcoholic beverages--- will she be able to be in there

Virginia

Sorry for the delay in answering... didn't realize there had been new posts since all the flurry immediately after I posted the original review :)

If you're talking about the evening shows in the main theatre, yes, she can definitely join you. In fact, she can be almost anywhere with you, but of course cannot order any alcohol herself. They won't question her presence, but will question her age if she attempts to order any alcoholic beverages. Enjoy your cruise! We sure did!!!!:D

Hi Letsal,

Azbaby is correct - the luggage tags will be including if you rec'd paper docs, and if you're printing your own docs from on line, then you need to get to the section titled "my docs" I think... I'm not able to see ours now that it's in the past, but it should be the last page - you print multiple copies and then tape or staple them onto your luggage. But if you can't find them, no big deal, you can still get the tags right at the terminal from the baggage handlers - they just prefer that everyone have them already attached to their luggage with the correct cabin numbers to make the process work a little more smoothly. In a pinch they'll provide some for you and you'll need to fill in the pertinent info there.

Supershuttle was great!!! They have a "speaker's podium" set up by the parkade that you'll see upon getting out of the terminal after you get off that morning - they know when things are running behind and it's no big deal to them... they have many vehicles on the go at any given time, and as soon as you emerge from the terminal dome, walk over to the rep standing at that podium, identify yourself with your confirmation number and they'll get you set up right away. I highly reccomend them - they saved the day for us!!

Hope that helps :D

Hi warrior,

There were many options for bar set-up choices, including various rums and vodkas, tequila, scotch, gin, etc. - we opted for one bottle of Bicardi White rum and one bottle of Captain Morgans' spiced rum - the total cost was $86.60 US, and that's including taxes and fees. I think for some of the pricier types of liquor there's a higher premium charged. You can't order it on-line... you must do it through the toll free number Bon Voyage Department 1-800-522-7648 and they will have a list you can choose from. Make sure you have your cruise confirmation info handy when you phone in your order.

You're sailing when? Does 6-7 mean June 7th?? This Sunday? You might be out of time to place an order, but it wouldn't hurt to phone and try. Keep in mind they will charge you right away, billed to your credit card, NOT your on-board credit. Ask them to fax you a copy of your confirmation for the bar set-up in case there are any issues, and print yourself a copy to take along on the cruise. Goodluck and Happy cruising!!! :D

Hey Ron, glad I could help, and happy to hear you made it under the wire!!:D

I know you can buy it cheaper at the liquor stores in California, but it's not much cheaper up here in Canada, so it was definitely worth it to us - saved us the stress of trying to smugle it in... no guilt having it in full view of the cabin steward that way too, and he was happy to keep our ice bucket full all week long. :p

Hope you have a fabulous cruise!!!

Hello! THANKS for such a well written comprehensive informative rundown on the Splendor. It sounds as if you all enjoyed a wonderful time, My sister and I are going on the same cruise Dec. 6. I can hardly wait!!! Luckily for me, I adore pink and Dr. Suess! So, I am sure I'll get a big kick out of the decor.

I do have a couple questions that if you could help me with, I'd be so appreciative: Do you know what the fees for using the thermal spa are?, and, do they have heated ceramic chaise lounges that overlook the sea with lovely soothing music in a "quiet room"in the spa area? We had enjoyed this so much on Holland America!

What is the limit on bottles of wine one can bring onboard at embarcation?

Were you able to find a GREAT cup of coffee anywhere anytime? (I know that may sound like such a little thing, but I adore my gourmet coffee!)

I hope lobster tails are featured at least one night?

Again, thanks for taking the time to write such a lovely review!

Hi Carolyn,

To be honest, I can't recall there being lobster on the menu, but I'm sure there must have been at least one night, I just didn't have it. But I'm really scratching my head now trying to remember... it could be that it was only served in one of the specialty restaurants, but we only ate in the dining room for dinners.

Technically, each passenger over the age of 21 is allowed to bring one bottle of wine on board. We had 4 passengers over 21 in our group, and we actually brought a total of 8 bottles on board... each of us packed one in our checked luggage and one in our carry on bag - I know, I know, someone is going to rant and rave over that admission, but I really don't care - we also paid for a bar set-up AND spent over $1000/couple for our bill at the end of the cruise, so Carnival definitely got their money's worth from us!

We didn't use the spa services, though I did sit it in the spa area lobby for a while when my sons were working out in the gym, so I'm not sure about the details of the actual spa services or the related fees - I think you may be able to request that info online or perhaps through a PVP.

As for coffee, oh yes, definitely some GREAT coffee to be had from the Coffee Shop on the Promenade deck, just outside the casino. You have to pay extra for that coffee, but some think it's worth it, me included :p - however, you can have espresso, or latte or capuccino after dinner each night in the main dining rooms at no charge, and those are quite nice too. We usually just went with the dining room and buffet coffee during the day, and it was just okay... certainly better than the syrop sludge they served on the Caribbean Princess. (Yet one more area in which I think Carnvial really outshone Princess, surprisingly enough!!:D)

I hope you have as wonderful a time on the Splendor as we did... we would sail on her again in a heartbeat!! But for your sake, I hope they will have improved the debarkation process by the time December rolls around.

just want to add something about room selection on Splendor. We just got off & were in 9260, inside cabin. It looks like there's nothing next to you in the ship layout, but there's an employee stairway that is metal. You hear people up & down it all hours, & a lot of banging around at 5am. There is also some sort of drain & you hear water running every few minutes. The stairway goes down the entire ship so any room below or above will be noisy all night.
