suzieinthesun Posted April 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2009 I read on one of these many posts that the Wyndham will be closing in August for the season. Can anyone verify the date? We are cruising on the Sensation Aug 20th and have an overnight stay in Nassau. We were planning the pass to the Wyndham but when I try to book online it tells me that no rooms are available. bobsfamily Posted April 28, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2009 I really doubt that it will as it has a casino (Crystal Palace) that stays somewhat busy... The Sheraton on GBI did close for a few months earlier this year...

You are correct....I also remember hearing about a closing....i just don't remember the exact dates.....the summer is actually low season for the Bahamas so that timing would make some sense. Yes, the Plan is for them to close from August 17 to Oct 5th. Staff has been asked to take their vacations and other given days at this time. Last season they operated at under 20% at this time, and feel that it would benefit them to just close during that time.

Once again as the Wyndham in Nassau has a casino (and caters to people who fly in to gamble) I do not think they are going to close as the gamblers would have nowhere to stay and would go to Atlantis... But they ARE closing. Baha Mar has announced it earlier this season.. and the workers that I know are all NOT WORKING for 8 weeks during this time. The Casino was empty during those weeks last year and will close as well. Sheraton will remain open. It's just Wyndham and Crystal palace that are closing. http://www.thenassauguardian.com/national_local/315785762811926.php
escentialssoycandles Posted April 28, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2009 I going this Saturday and will double check for you, but it does make sense if it is low season and not that many tourists traveling then.

suzieinthesun Posted April 29, 2009 Author #11 Share Posted April 29, 2009 thanks for all the responses, and escentialssoycandles if you can check on it while you are there and report back that would be awesome! (although after checking scubagirrl's link, it looks confirmed that they will close.) Can you tell me if Sheraton is just as nice? I have seen posts with pics of Wyndham and it looked really nice... looking for something nice to spend the day at...
bobsfamily Posted April 29, 2009 #12 Share Posted April 29, 2009 I tried booking a room during that time thru Wyndham and it came back with no room available... Expedia has the same note.

A large section of pristine beach.. Great bar and grill and lovely grounds. The water is crystal clear and calm.. the sandy is white and powdery. Can't beat it. suzieinthesun Posted April 30, 2009 Author #14 Share Posted April 30, 2009 thanks again Scubagirrl! Looks like we will be checking out the Sheraton. I liked the Beaches idea, but I see you have to be at least 14 y/o. do you know of any other all inclusive (lunch and cocktails) that would allow 9 y/o kids? Sorry, I don't have any updates.. they change so often.. trying to keep up with the failing economy. Hope those who are heading to Cable Beach will post.
