St Petersburg - HERMITAGE- DAYS TO VISIT

Recommended Posts

We will be on the Emerald Princess July 15 cruise and will be in St Petersburg on Sunday and Monday. We were told the Hermitage and Grand Palace in Peterhoff are both closed on Mondays. If anyone has any information on this, it would be greatly appreciated. We are attempting to organize out time and tours there and this will greatly impact our decision. Thank you very much for any help.

As per

http://www.hermitagemuseum.org

the hours are: Tuesdays - Saturdays, 10.30 - 18.00; Sundays; 10.30 - 17.00. Closed Mondays! This website is very good and has lots of other info on this great, five-building complex. Hopefully, you will be doing a private tour that allows more flexibility and enjoyment at this museum and at the other key places in St. Petersburg. That is what we did summer. We had an early admission at 9:30 am, which really helped, also. Below are some picture samples of what you will enjoy! It's a super city with such wonderful history, sights and sites!

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

We appreciate your timely info and do plan to use a private tour for our two days there. We are traveling with another couple and have to decide whether to use the ship's tour or an independent tour company. We will, of course, try to customize the tours to include everything, if possible.

The photos are beautiful and we thank you for sharing.

People

that is the advantage of booking with private tour companies. THEY KNOW THEIR CITY and will plan your tour accordingly. If you have a 2 day tour and certain places are closed on one of the days, then they will get you there the following day (or visa versa).

Most have been doing these tours for quite a while and know exactly what is open and what is closed and when. They do not want you to miss anything on your tour. If you decide to go with any of the recommended groups, and they list a certain stop, say, on day one, and it is closed that day, they will rearrange the tour so you will do something else on day one and get to the other place on day two when it is open.

On our tour with SPB, we were scheduled to do certain things on day one, but it was such a magnificent day, that they changed some of the itinerary to take advantage of that magnificent day. (day 2 was just as wonderful, but you just don't know that in advance).\ With ship's tours you just do not know what you will get. If the places are closed, the ship can very well just say , sorry, better luck next time.

The Hermitage is a marvelous place and should not be missed, no matter what.

Here are a few of my pix of the Hermitage to show you
