AT&T 3G service in FP?

We're sailing on the Paul Gauguin on 7/4, and I've heard that the onboard WiFi is both slow and overpriced. However, I can use my iPhone as a wireless access point for my laptop whenever I have a 3G signal. Has anyone used their iPhone or other AT&T phone for data from the various ports? That would definitely be cheaper, and probably faster, from what I hear.

Oh, and voice calls in FP are $3.49/min normally, or $2.29/min if you pay $5/mo (which I might do just for this trip, just in case we have an emergency or other issue back home and want to talk on the phone a lot).
