DoniaG Posted May 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Please tell me about the Cirque show that I've read about on the Summit - Does anyone know if it will still be there in late June? We're going on a Med cruise then Is it really Cirque du Soleil - or is it something along the same lines? LOVE the original, but not opposed to something similar. Do they do more than one show during a 12-day cruise? Do they do more than one show per evening. Thanks for your help. Donia
kitty9 Posted May 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Cirque has been gone from Celebrity for more than a year. It was a multi million dollar mistake for the cruise line.

I thought I had read of someone seeing it more recently, but I probably just failed to check the year of the posting. Too bad! :o
Aquahound Posted May 1, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Ok, now I'm confused about this. On Solstice the Cirque du Soleil type show was called Solstice - The Show. The CD said that Solstice was the only ship with this type of show. Was he mistaken? Sorry for the question....it was my first X cruise. BTW, I thought the show was fantastic. The entire theater, including the ceiling, was used.
Veronica13 Posted May 1, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 1, 2009 The "bar at the edge of the earth" which showed high tech visual effects was short lived too. I very much wanted to see it, but it was gone years ago. :(
kitty9 Posted May 1, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 1, 2009 The original Cirque show on the M Class ships was stopped over a year ago---it was a pretty big bust. They did try and put another Cirque show in the Celebrity Theater, but that didn't last long either. They've gotten rid of the beds and other things in the Bar at the Edge and Constellation Lounge (on Infinity), and turned them back into regular lounges. The show on Solstice is not done by Cirque. Why do you think it was such a bust onboard? Tickets to almost any of their shows - especially in Las Vegas - are very difficult to get. Wonder why that popularity didn't carry over. D. You had to be there to appreciate how horrible it was.The characters in the lounge show could best be described as bizarre ,frequently, intruding on and interacting with the cruisers. Most did not welcome the forced audience participation with euro-techno-zombies.Many said it was like a bad dream. I guess if you were stoned it might be OK. Most who saw it agreed and let Celebrity know on their comment cards,so it was dropped.
chessbriar Posted May 1, 2009 #9 Share Posted May 1, 2009 It failed because what was offered was not what was expected by their guests. What Cirque offered was an experience. They destroyed the disco with curtains and beds on Summit and Connie making the disco unusable by those who wanted to use it for observation in Alaska and Northern Europe. To go to the disco for a one night experience where a couple of characters walked around made no sense to the guests. Guests wanted a stage show like you get at Cirque. After many complaints a short Cirque show was put together. When the contract expired, it was decided not to renew. It was truely a shame as I think X and Cirque was a great pairing. But for one reason or another, they could not make it work. There is much more to this, but I will not expound as I only have one side of the story. As we all know there are 3 sides to every story, in this case, X's side, Cirque's side, and the truth.
DoniaG Posted May 1, 2009 Author #10 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Thanks! The shows are pretty weird - and probably would be even weirder in an intimate setting. I was thinking about the fabulous acrobats and forgot those bizarre singers. D.
