Sapphire casino....is it cashless yet?

Hi,

While going thru the Princess site about the casinos, it said that not all the ships have been updated with the "cashout system" in their casinos. The Sapphire was not listed as one of the ships that had it . (We leave on May 16 for Alaska on the Sapphire). I'm assuming that this is the system where you can put $$$ onto your card "bank" and download part (or all) of it right there at the slot machine. When finished, you can then upload your winnings (ya, right) back up onto your card and move on to another machine. This is how it worked on the Star last Oct and was so easy.....you didn't have to be carrying cash around, just your ship card. Anybody know if the Sapphire has been updated yet????

Any recent Sapphire cruisers out there??? Several of us from the May 16 roll call would like to know the answer to this question....can you use your ship card as your "bank" in the casino or will we still have to carry cash around with us? Thanks.

If I am not mistaken here, all of the ships casinos have been updated to the card system. All except the smaller ships such as the Tahitian/Ocean, Royal and Pacific, which still have the old cash in cash out system.

The cashless system is convenient but for me takes away some of the fun.

I used to get so excited when I would have a jackpot and hear the coins. I also would decide on how much I wanted to spend and let my winnings collect, when I had spent the amount I had allotted I would hit the pay out button and get a charge out of hearing the coins hit the tray. I have not been to Vegas since they went to the cashless system. It is too much like playing a computer game, which is fun but I can do that at home. There are some things that do not improve with change and for me, this cashless system is no where as exciting.

Please bear with me...you can put money (cash) in the machine but you only can get your winnings put on your room card?

If you are lucky enough to win, how do you get the money off the card?

We were on the 3/28 MR cruise on the Sapphire. The casino was not cashless.

I realize you can put cash in the slots, and that might be what is causing the confusion here. But all the ships I have known on Princess recently, the slots CAN BE cashless if you wish them to be by using your cruise card and setting up a casino bank. In other words, it's a cashless system IF you want it to be when using your cruise card, but you can also use bills IF you want to. Kind of a semi cashless system on most ships.

At the end of the cruise or a day before just take your card to the cashino cage and tell them you are cashing out. They then will give you the monies.

Thanks for all your responses. My question came about because of this statement on Princess.Com about the casinos:

Slots

You can download funds from your Cruise Card for credits to play at any slot machine hosting the Slot Master system. All ships have Cashout except the Sun, Dawn, Sea, Tahitian, Royal, Pacific, and Sapphire.

I wasn't quite sure how to intrepet the above. What does "cashout" mean and is that a function that requires the Slot Master system??? On the Sapphire, can I "bank" $$$ on my ship card via the slot machine and then download/upload from that "banked" amount on other machines?

Andi, yes you can. Now what I do is right from the star after putting in my info I put in say $100.00 and stick it in the bank. Then I work from that and go from machine to machine. Now of course if i get tired of a machine, then I put whatever credit is there back into the "bank" and go to another machine.

  • 1 month later...

After reading all the above posts, I still don't see an answer to the OP's question. I will try to simplify the question:

When you cash out of a machine on the SAPPHIRE, do you still see coins drop out of the machine (which you then have to transfer into a bucket and carry to the cashier) OR are you able to put your balance onto your ship card?

We were on the ship in November of last year and were told that the casino would "soon" be converted to the new system. Anyone who's been in the Sapphire casino recently, please chime in.

GSD4ME.......hi...I am the OP and just got back from the Sapphire on May 30. To answer your (and my original) question...NO, the Sapphire casino is not cashless. Each time you sit down at a slot machine, you must put real $$/tokens into it. When done with that machine, you must cash out and coins/tokens come jangling down into the tray. Some of the machines are physically set up to accept your cruise card but the software system has not been installed yet so you can put your card in but nothing happens. Walking around with a bucket of dirty, nasty coins was the pits. Another thing that sort of ticked me off about Sapphire casino was the large number of $1 and above machines that were NEVER being used and the relatively small number of penny and nickel machines that ALWAYS had people lined up to get on.

Well that really ticks me off! They promised us last November that the Sapphire was "soon" to be upgraded as it was the last ship requiring gamblers to use the buckets with "dirty" coins. What a pain!

Not to mention that the upgraded casinos automatically give you a $10 credit on your card after so much (I don't remember now) play. Why do you think they are dragging their heals on this so long?

A case of "soon" being a relative term....must have the same meaning as Mañana :D.
