All things "Victory"

We had cabin #6459 and loved it (extra long balcony, aft), but we were on the wrong side of the ship. The even numbered cabins are the way to go on this trip. Fortunetly our friends had the cabin next to us #6461, an aft wrap, so we opened up our balcony divider and were able to enjoy the great aft views.

Was wondering how much bigger this room is compared to normal balcony room and do you have any pics of this room?

They let you bring on 1 bottle of wine per person. They also tell you this can only be done in San Juan. I brought wine onboard in almost all the ports we visited. My bag went thru the scanner and no one said anything. I did not bring it to their attention either!

You can drop your luggage off and get your S&S card and go off into town before 2:30, can't you? :D

Yes you can. On Jan 10th, they opened the doors and started calling groups to board just before 1PM.

Note that they ARE scanning for and confiscating booze now in San Juan. We saw some carryons which were NOT tagged stopped and inspected to one guy's surprise. Maybe someone saw him remove a tag? Not sure how they were caught but there were at least three crew members flagging people over to the liquor collection table.

We were required to go out on deck for the lifeboat drill at 9:30 but life jackets were not required.

Great thread for we are deciding between Victory Southern or a newer ship Eastern. Victory is 10 years old and don't have a good perspective of what everyone thinks of the ship. Wife wants a newer ship but the Southern itinerary is great. Any more opinions on the over all condition of the ship. Thanks.

Once you board in San Juan can you get off the ship to go sight seeing?

We are on this cruise starting February 6. I've been told by others that you can get back off. My documents say you can check in starting at 2:30 (hopefully we can get on earlier) and you have to be checked in by 5:00, but not sure what time you have to be back on if you check in earlier. In our case, we will probably get back off and get back on by 5:00 due to super bowl.

Thanks for posting the pics, especially the pics of the suite, and the pics of the ship overall. I hate to say this but all of the Carnival ships look the same to me. The Dream and Spendor differ slightly due to the thalassotherapy pools and the various steam rooms that these two ships have in the spa area.

 We are cruising on 2/28 on Victory, love to dance the night away, have not seen much about the bands on this ship. On Princess, where we have cruised, we think the bands are not very good. We always wind up at the club which does not open until 11. Has anyone been on here lately that knows if there are good dancing bands on the Victory (good old rock and roll?). Thanks!

Welcome to CC! You should join our Roll Call

When we were on her last February there was a jazz band that played also a good variety of Salsa, etc.

I think the Capers had some other band type music, but I now forget.

I found the nightlife on this cruise to be poor. Not to say that the guests weren't trying to have fun. I had heard more than one person agree that it was very dead in the evenings. We were in a large group of 97 and most felt that way. The casino was empty, the disco - empty. There was a piano bar with a singer that wasn't very good. A country singer that was just ok. I did enjoy the shows. The comediene was very vulgar (in my opinion) I don't have a problem with cursing if it is called for. This was over the top. DSorry to be negative. But I did love the cruise.

All aft wraparounds are configured a little differently but not really any larger than regular balcony cabins. The aft cabins are the same as regular balcony but the balcony is deeper. The great thing about them is the wrap around balcony. That's why we prefer them to the suites.

Hi All,

I don't have much time but wanted to let everyone know that I was on this sailing! It was EXCELLENT! This was #14 cruise for us & I have done the s. caribbean 3 times. By far the best yet.

San Juan- You can board the ship and are allowed off the ship. We did this without any issues. We got on about 1 ish & then got off for the San Sebastion Festival. You have to be back on board by 8:30pm.

Nightlife- We had a great crowd of cruisers on this cruise. Tons of things going on into the late night. Maybe it was just a good mix of peeps but the piano bar was busy, shows were good & well attended, even peeps watching movies out on the lido deck at 1:30am. The Disco was open late too. Adlut late night Comedians were funny & vulgar but you know that going into it! There was plenty of action going on in the Casino too. Maybe we just lucked out & had an excellent group aboard!

I would book this cruise tomorrow!! It was fantastic!

Book, Go, Enjoy!

Sue

Take Victory, She is in great shape. They are always cleaning. Rooms were great. Staff was great. Fun crew was awesome. I wish was going on her again this year. The iternary was jammed packed and can get expensive if you do excursions in every port. I must say, she was my favorite Carnival Ship.

Sorry if this has been posted in one of the 60+ pages, but I haven't been able to find a straight answer to this:

If I buy a soda card on the Victory, can I use it for "free" soda in the main dining room?

Also, do all cruise ships pour your soda out of a can? Or do some of them have soda fountains? I've only ever been on the Holiday, so maybe it was just because it was an older ship.

My second cruise starts in less than 2 days! Woo-Hoo, Victory here I come!

Thanks!

How was the water? My BF gets seasick, but is going to be taking everything under the sun to stay well. I even have ginger pills and ginger cookies (ha ha).

yes, you can use it in the dining room. i dont get soda that much, but i think just cans, probably so they don't have to deal with all the co2 cannisters.

Just back from the Victory. They are taking bottles from the carryons. When it goes through they tag the bag. The duty free tells you to either bring an extra bag and send it through checked luggage or to cut off the tag. Another option would be to have your travel companion with an near empty bag bigger than the bag with the booze. Let them tag your booze bag and then between the checkpoint and the ship slide the tagged bag inside the non tagged bag. The bags are NOT reinspected so as long as there is no markings visible you will be fine. We put our liquor in our checked bags and had no problems. The duty free is located upstair from the checked bag drop off, so if you want to check it, bring an extra empty bag and extra luggage tag. Check your bags as normal, check in, buy your booze, put in checked bag, walk back downstairs and give bag to porters. You can walk between the checked bag location and the duty free without going through security. Long story short, it is easiest just to purchase booze ahead of time, put in your checked bag and go on your way without messing around with the duty free store. If you insist on buying it at the duty free it can be done using one of the above methods.

Is there a good oportunity to cut the tag off before entering the ship? Maybe a bathroom to duck into? What kind of tag is used...would I need something to cut it with or can it be pulled off?

Thank you!! We sail in 3 weeks and I am just in that "sucking up information mode" Just Can't Wait!!! Thanks again!

Just hoping for some thoughts or reviews about this cabin or others near the entrance of the Lido deck. Thanks!! :)

I was on the Victory and was in 9218, forward of the cabin you are considering.

Views from the port side are very good in most ports. In regards to being close to the elevators, I don't think you'll have a problem. The traffic coming to the Lido deck for the pool or buffet heads aft. Everytime I walked by your proposed location it was as quiet as any other hallway.
