sick after Mariner swine flu cruise

Got back from the Mariner cruise on Sunday and last night (Tuesday) the sore throat, fever and general ickyness started and I feel horrible today. Anyone else sick after that cruise??

A whole bunch of us were sick after the Mariner Inagural MR cruise in Feb.

 

Sore throat and a killer hacking cough.

Getting the Swine Flu is really not that bad compared to other flus (SP).

So far, I've heard of the April 19th and April 26th cruisers being very sick when they got home. There's some kind of flu bug going around the ship, long before the swine flu issue.

Interesting we're now calling it the swine flu cruise :)

 

We had a party of 15 and to my knowledge no one is sick. In fact, aside from the fact we were not on the cruise we paid for, we're all doing just fine.

 

My letter requesting further compensation will be sent before the end of the week...I just think RCCL is missing a great opportunity/incentive for passengers from the :(swine flu cruise:( to cruise again with RCCL. It just makes great business sense to invite us back, and offer a cruise credit or somethin'. How difficult is that?

Yes I put the title in capitals for a reason. Nobody that I know from the 19 April Mariner Cruise was said to have the Flu. Not the Swine Flu not any kind of Flu. One person came on a posted that there brother had developed Swine Flu while on the 19th April cruise but they were a new person on the board with only 8 posts total at the time. I wonder if they were just stirring the pot. :rolleyes:

 

We did have Sore Throat, Congestion, Horrible Cough, some of the the cruises reported that their doctor said possible strep. Many have required meds while the majority have gotten through it with over the counter stuff. It is a long drawn out sickness but it has not to my knowledge been diagnosed as the Flu by anyone on the roll call I am on.

 

Please do not assume that it is the Flu. I have read that many people have had the same symptoms every since the Around the Horn Cruise, don't know if it was around before that.

I wasn't on the Mariner, but on Enchantment last week and I have all that plus on Monday a really not happy tummy. Fortunately that was just Monday. :(

 

I felt fine on Saturday and Sunday except for a dry tickle cough that started on Sunday. Obviously I found some sort of a bug somewhere.

Another sickie from the April 19 Mariner cruise.:( Something is definitely on that ship, and many of us have emailed RCI about it. I'll be on again in August with my family, and don't want a repeat of this illness. It is a NASTY cold. I've managed on just regular Dristan, Tylenol, nasal spray and such, but some have developed bacterial infections on top of the viral one. I've lost 3 days of work so far. I'm finally on the mend.

Myself and my wife were sick both on and after the April 25th Liberty Cruise.

 

I saw some people who also said they were not feeling well after the cruise too.

Instead of the swine flu cruise, perhaps we could just call Mariner the Plague Ship. I also fell victim, probably because my cabin steward was sick, although there was enough coughing and hacking all over the ship that I was probably doomed form the outset. I'm not a germaphobe, but after she came back from 2 days out I was practically spraying Lysol in her face. It didn't work - I ended up terribly congested, no fever, sore throat or coughing, but slept all day for 2 days after the cruise.

 

And I don't think the amount of lingering smoke in the Royal Promenade helps - Bolero's, Wig & Gavel, Vintages and the casino all allow smoking, so there was some really stinky air in there. Mariner is a California ship, at least for now - perhaps they should adopt a more restrictive smoking policy in the public areas.

I'm another one from the April 19th sailing that has the yucky cough, congestion, plugged ears thing going on. 11 days and counting. I did notice that on our last two sea days I had to wait for elevators many times that were at Deck 1... and the only thing down there when you are at sea is the Medical Center. There were several from our group that came down with this during or immediately after our sailing... for me it was the day I got home.

Jean I agree 100% ABOUT THE SMOKING ! I am not suprised about the flu and colds.Alot of people were wet to the bones in SFwith not even a jacket.My friend wore flip flops.

How do you know? Do you have a medical degree? An inside Contact at the CDC?

 

All I know is that in my job I get several emails a day from the DPH on how to deal with H1N1 situation.

I'd say Plague is a bit far on the spectrum of illness...but then again day before LAX arrival, bad outcome.

 

Sad how many get sick on Mariner...even one I know of who got sick 2X.

 

Hope RCCL can stop the spread of whatever it is going around on MOTS.

Let's not over react.

It is very common for people who cruise or fly, to catch something on their vacations being they are in such close quarters with so many people. ;)

My husband and I also came home from the Mariner in February with the "Mariner cough and illness" everyone seems to get on her. It was not the "Swine Flu" and we did get over it. ;)

 

I also think the title of the thread is a bit over the top. :rolleyes:
