What is the difference in activites and how much time is shared with the 15-17 year old group.

I have two almost 15 year olds that I am taking in July( bday in october).

They are both very mature-looking, acting, and most of their friends are older than them.

I actually would prefer they stick with the older group...I know that sounds a little strange, but I think they will be happier.

We were on the Legend last year with our 16 year old daughter and her friend (also 16). They had a BLAST! We never saw them except at dinner time and our excursions. To them is was like "clubbing". Best vacation my wife and I have had in 16 years.:D

Thank you nunuc2000 and LHP. So, they can go anywhere on the boat including other bars such as the piano bar or sports bar, but they just cant drink?

I believe that is correct, (but if I'm mistaken, someone please correct me,) and they can hit the casino too... just no ordering alcohol.

I've added you too :D Just know that I won't be able to mail it out until Monday, sorry. :(

That's okay. Thank you so much. My son and I are looking forward to our first cruise in October. He's 16 so he would be interested in seeing these.

I think what you're asking is the difference in activities between the 12-14 yr old group and the 15-17 yr old group? If so, I'm not positive exactly what the younger group did, but from what I understand from one of the families who had kids in both groups, the younger groups activites were slightly more structured. On one evening they had a mixer with the two groups and it seemed to go fairly well - my boys said that the older kids were kinda showing off to the younger ones, but in a good way... you know, trying to show them some hip-hop dance moves, etc.

I can totally understand wanting to put your 14 yr olds in the older group, but I'm not sure if they'll allow it - it seems to be a decision made on board, with varying results from ship to ship. My two were lucky to be in the same group, otherwise I think I would have tried to make a case for my younger one to move up and be with his brother, and for the same reasons you stated - my kids are mature looking and acting and my youngest is friends with his olders brother's friends... it's a just a better "fit". :)

Wow...so do most of the kids go to the Meet and Greet the first night and then chose everything else day by day from then on?

And we are going on the Memorial Day Crusie on the Legend.....do you think there will be a lot of teens on the boat? I know most schools are getting out either before or right after that weekend...so im not sure if we just made or just missed the boat so to speak about finding a week that had a decent amount of kids for our sons to meet.

We will be on the Valor 6/28 and I would like to have you e-mail me the Capers too. My girls (16 &13) will be bringing friends that are the same age and I know they would all like to have some idea of what type of activities will be going on.

Thanks,

Rhona

I have 2 sons, ages 14 and 17. The oldest is very outgoing, and makes friends wherever he goes. The youngest however is more reserved, and loves to hang with big brother. Is the Carnival staff (Fantasy) flexible enough to let him hang with his brother., or will they make him stay in his age group?

I didn't understand why they were so strict on making sure kids stay in their group UNTIL I googled on youtube "carnival o2"

Once i saw the videos of the 15-17 year old kids that they made themselves inside the lounge and the clubs, i understood that the average 14 year old wouldn't have the maturity or mentality to deal with these types of situations.

From my point of view, and many can disagree, as well as make your own judgements based on your own children, but being a 23 year old female, and knowing a few 13-16 year olds through family and friends, a 14 year old in 8th grade, has a completely different view of things then a 15 year old in high school. These kids were bumping and grinding on each other, and dancing in a provocative way in which i wouldn't of done even now at 23.

The difference between the 14 year old group and the 15 year old group is the level of supervision. Its just your opinion or choice as a parent if you want your 14 year old less supervised in a situation with older kids exposed to an increase in hormones plus an increased understanding of sexuality or in a situation in which there is structed activities (of the same type) with a closer watching eye around.

the link to visit the capers on the ccl website is https://www.bookccl.com/irman/bookccl/sections/shipboard/Camp%20Carnival.html

They have the 02 capers, but not the other ones as per a small glitch i guess. But to my understanding the activities are very similar, just one is more structured and supervised, and the other is less and more loosly defined.

Each situation is different for each ship, and it's really hit & miss as to whether or not they will allow your younger son to join his brother in the O2 Club. One of the families that my kids hooked up with had 3 teens - 17, 15 and 14 - the 14 yr old WAS allowed to join the O2 Club, and from what I understand, he had just as much fun as everyone else in the club, and was VERY happy to be a part of the larger group. But like I said, it really appears to vary from ship to ship on how the rules are applied (or not applied) when it comes to ages. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. :)

My 14 yo dd had success. She looks and acts older, and went along with her brother (17) on the first night. He showed his card, she said she left hers in the room. They let her in the first night and after that they knew her so there was no issue. But this is not a kid anyone ever thinks is in middle school so that probably impacted her luck.

I'm taking my 17 year old nephew and 18 year old son on a cruise in July. So reading this there is no way they can do the O2 together? I'm wondering if they are going to be bored now.

From what I've seen and heard, there's a slightly better chance of having a younger one move up than having an older one move down. At 18, your son is considered an adult and thus not eligible for the Club O2 program. But, as many have pointed out, you just never know how successful you may or may not be in bending the Carnival age rules.

But don't automatically think they'll be bored... even my kids, who were HUGE fans of the O2 Club once they gave it a try, also had a TON of fun doing things with the other kids that weren't structured activities put on by Carnival - there's nothing to stop your son and nephew form hanging out together and with other teens roughly the same ages, and from your nephew to hook up with others in the teen club and then organize something outside the confines of the club that can then include your son. The only place your son can not join in with his cousin is in the actual O2 Club room. Anywhere else on the ship is "public space" with no real restrictions on ages (with the exception of the other kids' program rooms, of course).

Hope that helps. :)
