NDRB Posted December 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2004 Is there much to see within walking distance of where HAL docks in Buenos Aires. or must one take a taxi? Any decent shops nearby? We're thinking of taking HAL's City highlights tour- do they stop anywhere that you would want to remain behind and find your own way back? Are you even allowed off the bus much on this tour? Splinter Posted December 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 10, 2004 You are in a fairly industrial area in BA. You can walk a short distance to some nice shops and restaurants that are on the harbor but I would not do that at night or go alone during the day. Cabs to the National Palace or Cathedral and to Calle Florida were reasonable. Be sure to use a radio cab that is called for you by the people at the pier or by a reputable hotel in town. Never hail a cab on the street here. We were on HAL too, but did not take any of their tours. We use http://www.southstartours.com for a city tour and then took cabs back to the things we really wanted to see more.

Nina We just did the city highlights tour a few weeks ago and that tour will let you off at Florida St. in the heart of BA. There is also a shuttle service at the dock provided by Sterns a jewelry store on Florida St. with complimentary service each way. We never went in the store but took the shuttle back to the ship. NDRB Posted December 10, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted December 10, 2004 Splinter, what was the cost and length of the tour you did? I have gone to their website a couple of times but don't see any city tours listed for Buenos Aires- it looks like they focus on tours of several days' duration? NDRB Posted December 14, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted December 14, 2004 Thanks for the info, Cally, although I may just make a "brief" detour into H. Sterns! :) Any idea how late the shuttle runs? Nina
