Morgans Posted May 17, 2009 #26 Share Posted May 17, 2009 We always tip the luggage handlers at Southampton - they're always pleasant & efficient so why not?
kwcrnp Posted May 20, 2009 Author #27 Share Posted May 20, 2009 Thank you to everyone that posted! Great information on tipping practices and guidelines. Very interesting on the credit cards and PIN numbers. We don't have a CC with a chip but we do have a PIN number for the card. We'll make sure we have cash for the automated spots! This is why I come to cruise critic!!;)
Berkshire Lass Posted May 22, 2009 #28 Share Posted May 22, 2009 At Dover cruise terminal there was a large sign up stating 'No tipping allowed'. The porters certainly didn't hover around looking for tips either. Rather refreshing.
cnarf77 Posted May 25, 2009 #29 Share Posted May 25, 2009 For those of us from US who are vacating in England, do you think it is necessary for us to have a pin attached to our charge cards for use in England??? No. Just make sure you tell the person you give your card to that it is not PIN'ed and they should be able to swipe it for you like normal. I am originally from Scotland but am now a US citizen and go back to visit my parents a lot and have never had a problem. Natalie
cocoabean Posted June 5, 2009 #30 Share Posted June 5, 2009 Is there a problem with tipping with US dollars? Is this acceptable for London?
handfordr Posted June 6, 2009 #31 Share Posted June 6, 2009 Is there a problem with tipping with US dollars? Is this acceptable for London? Tipping with US Dollars is as use to anyone in London as tipping in British Sterling in the States. You really should put any US currency in the hotel safe and leave it there until you depart the country.
LobstersLass Posted June 6, 2009 #32 Share Posted June 6, 2009 Is there a problem with tipping with US dollars? Is this acceptable for London? This would be a very odd thing to do.
