Carnival called me- do I ignore them?

Recommended Posts

I know this has been asked before... but I'm paranoid and want to make sure.

I got an automated call this afternoon from Carnival telling me not to get to the port until 2:00pm on Sunday. Do I ignore this and go at 10:00 am so I can get on early? We are a group of 15. I just don't know what we would do from the time we have to check out of our hotel until 2:00-4:00 if we waited to check in.

By the way- they called again today to tell me that my itinerary had changed from Mexico to Canada. I just wonder if this was anyone's first notification about this. I know my mother's spam filter got her email and I am the one who told her. Can you imagine if you found this out 3 days before your cruise??:D

Yes of course :) Whats the worst that can happen? Instead of waiting in the hotel lobby, you will wait in the port's check in area.

It's America.... you are free to arrive at the port whenever you choose. You may have to wait a bit, but you should still be able to get on prior to 2 PM.

I think they give you so many days to cancel & re-book if that's an option & you don't want to go to Canada. You must be on The Splendor. I guess now you'll have to adjust your clothing for cooler temps.

My dh loves to get to the port early as that is when his cruise experience begins. We got that call as well a few weeks ago and it didn't stop his desire to arrive at the port at 9am~! The porters were not ready to take luggage at that time as they were assisting others off the ship. When we arrived at the port we were directed to the parking garage area and waited near the porter sign. At 9:30am they started taking luggage and we headed out of the garage over to the early check in section. There is an outdoor area set up for this and you can't miss it. We checked in and were given a zone 1 boarding pass. From there you find your sitting area that matches your zone number. You will then wait with a mixture of those getting off the ship that are waiting on rides as well as with those that are eagar to get on board with you. It was a very enjoyable process for us and the time went by quickly. If it's raining or extremely hot you may not enjoy such a long wait as you are outside and not under cover. We were told we wouldn't be able to board til 1:30. We were on board by 12:30 ish.

Just thought I'd share this with you to help you decide if you really need to wait til 2pm to arrive. Enjoy your cruise and make sure you pack some warm clothes too :)

Edited to add that if you are in fact going on the Splendor IGNORE anyone that tells you Early Check In is at the Queen Mary. They are not providing that service for Splendor guests. If you are on the Paradise Queen Mary is still offering the early check in on Mondays.

Thanks everyone! The only thing about going too early that worried me was the different ages of my group. My mom can't stand for too long and the little kids can't stand still for too long. It looks like the weather in LB will be beautiful so we're going for it!

If you arrive early there are concrete benches and various places to sit :) You won't have to actually stand in line while waiting. When they are ready to board your particular zone they will come to the designated zone area and escort those with that zone number to the line :) I like that part of the process since it keeps everyone from swarming the line.

We are driving from Tucson. I am not going to take a chance that we don't make it to the ship on time We are leaving from long beach. My husband has a bad back and can't stand very long. The last time we left they lead us to a differnt line where everybody that needed special assistance waited. I hope they do this again.
