Does anyone know what a local call from a public telephone in Venice costs?

 

Not expensive, €1 or less as I recall. Your problem will be finding one. More scare in Italy then they are is the US.

As I recall, they don't take coins. You have to buy a telephone card in a Tobacco shop, and snap off the corner. You can get various values on the cards - €1, €5, etc.

 

As GSPLover said, the phones themselves are not easy to find!
