Bacon Police on the Glory

OOPS! I think I originally put this in the wrong place! Forgive me, I'm a rookie at this board thing.

Just got back from the Eastern itenerary on the Glory. This was our seventh Carnival cruise. We noticed something new. They now have bacon police at the Lido breakfast buffet. (I think my doctor may have had something to do with this). Yep, you can't serve yourself bacon any more - everything else is the same, you have spoons or grabberdingers to get the eggs, pancakes, etc.; you just can't get your own bacon, sausage, or ham slices. There is a cook standing there and when you ask for some bacon he/she gives you a couple of slices, that's it. If you want a little more, you have to sort of beg for it.

Be very careful about choosing one of the cabins on the extreme aft end of the ship. We were right on the back, looking at the wake, and the noise and vibration were unbelievable. I was worried about getting shaken baby syndrome and going deaf. If you're trying to sleep in a little bit on the port call mornings, forget it. The thrusters are ear shattering and will rattle you right out of bed.

Yikes I haven't encountered the bacon police but I haven't eaten breakfast at the buffet yet. Are you saying that if I polietly asked "May I have 4 pieces of bacon please?" they would have said no?

I have a problem sleeping too late on the cruises. On our last one I slept til 8:15 (somehow that was the time I woke up each morning on my own) which is later than I usually sleep. I've avoided the aft ends of the ships because of the vibration and that I sleep on my stomach. The only time I've ever had any issue with the motion is when I'm in bed (sleeping). I may have to try one of these cabins if it might help me wake up earlier on port days!! :)

I like to eat SMOKY BACON all over the ship....

Smoke, smoke, smoke... that enough smoke for you? This is a bacon thread...

Really? Then maybe you should tell OP that, because they are the ones that brought up the smoking subject in the opening post.

Probably to stop those people that grab it with their fingers ewwwww:eek:

Nice point. Isn't if funny we all complain that service is getting worse and when they add service we complain that we cannot get enough bacon:D

Do the Bacon Police have badges?

It also cuts down on the kids that come through and pile their plates high with it and waste it. I've seen that many times on the cruise and on land. Some kids should not be left unsupervised, now that I think about it, some adults shouldn't either.

I would like the crumbed/broken "waste" for my scambled eggs!!! :D Usually don't want to wait for the omelet line. Guess I need to get in with the servers that's always there for breakfast, have them save it for me! Woo-hoo, I'd be a happy girl. lol Can get as much as ya want, no worries.

Life is good!

I also wish the casino had a couple of non-smoking nights as some other lines have. Before anyone tells me I should sail those other lines then, I happen to like Carnival, just not all the smoke.

The Paradise has the casino nonsmoking on the four day cruise and smoky on the three day cruise.

Bacon pieces parts can always be used at the salad bar.

I like the new system because rude people can't pick, pick, pick, pick their way through an entire tray trying to find a perfect piece.

Is it rude for me to select a piece of bacon that is actually cooked?

What lines have these nights. I would love to go on them.

i know HAL has non smoking nights in the Casino...2 on a 7 night cruise. It was wonderful for those who don't like all the smoke concentrated in one area. HAL is smoke free in all their dining areas as well, I believe.

See thats how it starts out. You just want yours cooked....then you want a fork and eventually a knife....then who knows what you will demand later probably coffee or something like that.:D

We were on the Liberty last week and met the bacon police. In most cases you'd only get two slices unless you begged for more. It worked for me.

But -- one morning they...RAN OUT OF BACON!!! Every station on the Lido was out. The poor souls behind the counter were saying it'd be 10 - 15 minutes for more, but there were some people who were seriously freaking out about it, running from station to station to see if there was any available. Yikes. Me? I had ham. :D

Do you pick through a cookie tray to find the one cookie that has the most chocolate chips?

It's a buffet. Cooked to order food is available in the dining room. Sometimes the whole tray used to be raw.

Because the new system is cutting down on waste, the cooks stand a better chance of keeping up with demand. I find the bacon they are serving to you these days is actually cooked.

Wow. So If I go to the buffet I should expect raw bacon and smile when I get it.

Quite honestly I would prefer ALL items put on my plate... then only hands touching the serving utensils would be gloved... some ships have people stationed at the dessert bars/areas giving you a slice or cup... whatever.

I know I didn't get that line either and how it helped the point they were trying to make.

They go this route whenever there is an outbreak of something nasty.

I have a way around that -- I use my fingers to find the perfect slice of bacon. :D

IMO the bacon is terrible anyway - deep fried and greasy.
It doesn't matter. The bacon pickers have been thwarted and I am pleased. Kudos to Carnival.
Darn! Does anyone know if there is a "Bacon Runner" to sneak bacon on board the ship?
