Dunns River Falls - Arrive before crowds?

Hi - Been reading the boards, and it seems to me that a key part to enjoying climbing Dunn's River Falls is to get there before the crowds arrive.

 

Any independant excursions that always seem to get there early? Best to book a smaller place, so don't have to sit forever "waiting for 2 more people to show"?

 

And are sport sandals (attached securely to feet with velcro) ok for the Dunns River Falls climb, or do we need to buy water shoes?

We used Peat Taylor and he got us there before all the cruise ship tours. We had a great time and were getting out when they were arriving, getting set up, so it was worth it. us and another couple used Peat's services and were the only 4 in his bus. We didn't wait for anyone and were able to get going as soon as we were off the ship.

 

As long as they are secure you should be fine. We used the water shoes and they worked great, but if you feel comfortable using the sandals go ahead.

We went in 2005 and plan on returning again in February and using his services. If he is not available, we will use one of the others to make sure we beat the crowds. We also want to tube on the White River as well.
