Traveling with Minors that Don't Belong to You

My husband and I are taking our children (teenagers) on Carnival Fascination in June 2009. We are taking two of their friends with us. We are going to Nassau and Freeport, Bahamas. Do I need to get anything other than notarized statements from both their parents authorizing them to travel with us? Thanks!

I've done this several times with my nieces, including for an upcoming trip on the Imagination in 2 weeks, on which I'm also taking one of my niece's friends, and I've only ever needed the notarized statement from the parents.

Have fun on the Fascination!

I've done it and besides the notarized letter and ID I would take a something notarized giving you permission to seek medical attention incase of an emergency and any of her medical insurance information......

We took our niece as well so our daughter would have someone to be with and we needed the notarized letter and a birth certificate. You need a passport now if it's after June 1st

If the cruise is a "closed loop" cruise you do not need a passport.

Each time we have taken our granddaughter on a cruise, we have had the notarized letter from her parents. It grants permission to travel and to seek medical treatment. Luckily, we have never needed it or even been asked for it.

I usually take a handwritten letter from both parents as my god children/nephews, neices always travel with me. Sometimes it is notorized sometimes it was not. I don't ever remember anyone asking me to see it. I will still take it with me just in case. This time I will use the form I printed courtesy of travelntreats:)

But if travelling to a foreign country and a return flight home is necessary for whatever reasons... YOU MUST HAVE A PASSPORT TO RE ENTER THE US.

Not exactly true... if YOU are having a medical emergency there are provisions to the law that allow you to fly home. Other wise like you said you are s o l .
