Buying Cigarettes on Med Cruise

Sailing the Gem on May 31st, and visiting Malta, Rome, Naples, Florence and Cannes, along with spending a few days in Barcelona. Does anyone know if there are any cheap cigarettes (cartons) sold in any these ports/or on the ship, or the barcelona airport, and for how much?

Don't recall the exact prices but what you pay on the ship will be far cheaper than you will get in any port.

You will get cheap cigarettes on board, but they are duty free, so you will be limited to taking 200 per adult home. Italy and France are usually a little bit dearer than Spain, so if you get chance, your best place would be Las Ramblas in Barcelona, where there are a few Tabac shops with a good choice. These tend to be cheaper than airport prices. Not sure about Malta, it's a few years since we've been there and the rules have probably changed since then, it was a duty free port and prices were very cheap there, but again a 200 limit.

Remember that some ships will hold duty free purchases until the last night of the cruise so, while the cigarettes sold in the ship's stores are inexpensive, if you want to smoke them during the trip you may have to find another option.

 

My husband found the per pack price (from bars) onboard to be higher than the US, but some ports (in Spain and Portugal--sorry we didn't buy any in the ports you mentioned) they were about the same price per pack as in the US.

We were on the SOlstice and the prices onboard the ship were much cheaper than duty free in the ports. For example, a carton of Marlboros cost $25 onboard.
