single supplements & OBC

Recommended Posts

My question on Crystal & the other premium lines is--they're offering stupendous amounts of OBC rather than lower their prices too much. What in the world would you use it for when everything is included? I doubt they would refund it to you at the end of the cruise. I've even seen cruises where all shore excursions are included. So what would one do with a thousand dollars of OBC???

I've been on 18 Crystal cruises, so I hope I can answer your questions.

First of all, Crystal is NOT all inclusive--only soda and bottled water. So, with the generous on board credit, you can pay for your alcohol, spa appointments, shore excursions, dinner in the Vintage Room, gratuities, photos, purchases in the ship's stores. The things they will not cover are casino games, bingo, and on board booking for future cruises.

The $1000 per person on board credit is only on Crystal, is a sliding scale depending on the cruise you select and can be contingent on the cabin category you choose. I don't see this generous OBC for lines like Silversea, Seabourn or Regent.

The shore excursions that are included in your cruise price are for Regent only---none of the other lines. Silversea and Seabourn may include one shore excursion per cruise, but not every excursion is included.

Im sailing solo on silversea on october 3-12, and they gave me 500 OBC. Now silversea is all inclusive, save upgraded dining venus. I will use the OBC to take 2 excursions, have a massage and get a real good bottle of wine or champagne.....poof 500 spent.
