MSC Splendida completes sea trials

26/5/2009

MSC Splendida, the second in MSC Cruises' Fantasia class, successfully completed sea trials on Sunday. The company’s new flagship left the Forme Joubert dock at STX France Cruise in St Nazaire last Thursday afternoon and headed out to the Ile d’Yeu and Belle-Ile for 72 hours’ sailing in the open sea. She returned to the shipyard, Dock C, on Sunday afternoon.

Approximately 400 people were mobilised during the sea trials.

On completion of the ultimate trials and interior fitting, the ship will be delivered to MSC on July 4, when the flag changing ceremony will be performed. MSC Splendida will leave the yard on the same day and set out on her pre-christening voyage to Barcelona.

En route, the vessel will call at Vigo, Lisbon, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Marseille. MSC Splendida will be christened by godmother Sophia Loren during a celebration scheduled for July 12 in Barcelona
