Fleckers Posted May 27, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2009 We're due to go On Ventura in a couple of weeks, and we'd like to book some excursions. The ports we're interested in are Alicante, Naples, Rome, Ajaccio, Naples, Cannes and Barcelona. Does anyone have any feedback on the P&O excursions, which are the best - we generally prefer active rather than coach trips

Tidal2 Posted May 29, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2009 Hi There We have done the Elche trip in Alicante with a tour of the palms, demo of tree climbing and free tasters of wine and cake. We then went on to a shoe factory (pikolinos) for a tour, film and shopping. We very much enjoyed it. You do not say if you are with family or like very active things but my experience with PandO trips as then tend to be quite sedate but do not always give you enough time in one place. Many are a half day long. They do on the other hand give you time for refreshments and toilet stops on this one. We did not do Rome as its a very long day and it was very hot. We took advantage of an half empty ship. In Barcelona we did the Parc Guell and Gaudi tour which was well worth the visit. Some people like to do their own exploring but in larger cities we tend to go on a trip due to my nervous nature about missing the ship(it happened to another couple on our last cruise). Watvh out for pick pockets in Barcelona. They hang around the back of the group when you are listening to the guide.
Fleckers Posted May 29, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted May 29, 2009 Thanks for the info - we're a fifty something couple who like walking rather than sitting on a coach, so anything that gets us out and about for a few hours to expend a bit of energy will be good. We liked the sound of the Elche trip so we'll definitely go on that.:)
pkfamily Posted May 31, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2009 We did a similar cruise last year and only did the Pompeii trip which was a half day trip. This was good but we would have preferred to do it ourselves as when we got to Naples there was a free bus service taking people to the train station. The train then takes you directly to Pompeii. We did Rome and Barcelona ourselves and had no problems at all. Rome was done by a direct train from Citavecchia and Barcelona was walking and using the Metro. I can post more details if you are interested. Paul
