Ship Comparison

I loved sailing RCI's Mariner of the Seas, having the Promenade and all the extra shops, etc. Not being that familiar with Carnival ships, which one/ones compare with what the Mariner has?

Thank you in advance!

None...lol I am a big fan of RCCL Voyager class ships because I love the Royal Promenade. None of the Carnival ships that I know of have anything like that. We're sailing on the Pride for New Years because we couldn't touch RCCL holiday cruises...prices were way too high. I've been on Carnival Miracle (Spirit class) and Valor (Conquest class). Of the two, I much prefer Miracle's layout...Valor was too confusing...it took all week to figure out where we were going  This is why we picked Pride for Dec. I don't see many similarities between Mariner of the Seas and any Carnival ship but that's my observations only ;)

I do not know of any ships that really compare to the "Voyager Class" ships with RCI. There is no "Royal Promenade", per say on CCL ships.....There are shops onboard though. But there is plenty of shopping available on CCL ships for sure !

Nope.....none can compare to the Mariner (which we too LOVED)....but we also enjoyed our cruise on the Glory and are excited about trying a Spirit class ship next.

I suppose the Dream would be the "closest"....simply because of their similar sizes...but no Carnival ship has the Promenade, ice skating ring, rock climbing, 3-story dining room, etc.

RCL's Voyager class and above ships have the Royal promenade running down the center of the ship, about 500 feet long. ALL Carnival ships have the Promenade deck that runs down the starboard side of the ship. It has shops on both sides of the Atrium then runs along side the casino,, casino bar, coffee, shop a couple of lounges all, the way aft past the disco to a small show room. It is a different layout serving the same purpose. RCL's Royal Prom. is more impressive. On carnival ships you have all the activities on one side and the ocean on the other. RCL SHIPS, No ocean???????

Not true......Mariner (Voyager class) has their bars and lounges (activities) all located on different decks with ocean views;)

I believe the question was about the promenade. Not whether RCL ships had windows or not. And the Royal Promenade does NOT.

and I do not want to sound like a flame...

but..if I want to go shopping I will go to a Mall before I board the ship or plan on going shopping in the port...I just dont buy a lot on board except a few souvineers...

I will never be seen on ice skates, but would enjoy watching them

I will never rock climb, and did watch them people do so on a RCL ship while I was on the lido deck of a CCL ship...

but then I know every one is different...

I like small towns and stay away from big cities...

so I love the Fantasy class ships...and feel lost when I am on the Conquest or Glory...

I hope you will try Carnival and maybe you will decide you can enjoy a cruise without all. I think a Conquest size ship or the Dream will give you plenty to keep your self busy.

Ok....if I want Promenade I sail RCI....I'm not a very big shopper, so it wasn't really the amount of shops they had, it was more of what was ON the promenade.

This will be my first Carnival cruise since 1994 (which was on the Ecstacy). I'm going with a very open mind and do not plan on comparing the two. I already KNOW Carnival will be different!

Thanks everyone for your responses!

I have been on a Voyager class ship (VOTS-2000), and I really enjoyed it. The royal promenade is cool and the parades are great (but crowded). But my last 4 cruises have been w/Carnival (3-Spirit, 1 Elation), next in Oct. (Splendor) and the Royal Promenade has not made a bit of difference. I go for the cost...I love the Spirit class ships for all of you booked. You will love.
