MomWilma Posted June 5, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2009 Is there something to do in Nassau that is inexpensive? As a family of five, things can get quite expensive and we would like to have a great time there but with little or less money spent. Any tours, on foot or not, that would be great. And do we need to take our passports with us to get back on the ship or not.

First, if you choose, the Atlantis hotel pulls the security guards from the dig aroun 4pmish so you can walk thru all of the aquariums for free.Thers a Hardrock Cafe within walking distance as well as a pirate museum. There is also a map onboard the ship that gives some of the highlights and there is a lot that is walkable. suezyq50 Posted June 5, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2009 If you like walking, there is a walking tour on Frommers. There is a map. You could take a taxi to the furtherest point and walk back. http://www.frommers.com/destinations/newprovidence/0251010008.html Also, ask on the Bahamas thread. mom x4,grandma x4 Posted June 5, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2009 We are always afraid we will loose our passports if we carry them onto the islands so for the adults we just take our drivers license and KTTWC to get back on board. We have never had a problem. Between pick pockets and just so easy to loose things we feel we'd rather loose a drivers license than a passport. I always take a photo copy of our passports to keep on us too. Just in case our ID is lost and keep the real passport in the safe in the room. If you do take your passports, please dont put them all in one place, just in case you get ripped off. I know this is a rare occurance but it can happen. I am not paranoid, but I am cautious after a lot of traveling and talking with people who have had problems. Have a magical cruise.
metrowon Posted June 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 6, 2009 A boat ferry over to Paradise Island, and walk through Atlantis. The aqairium is partially viewable, and the hotel has a mall, or shopping area. You could ferry back, or get a cab back. The few blocks around the terminal area, well they can be a little intimidating. Google in, Public Beaches, Nassau, Bahamas. See what comes up? Don't be late getting back. You can get there and back by taxi or water taxi which is slower. Check out the Nassau Port of Call Threads for other ideas and info.
