Hi can anyone in the uk help me with who I need to do legal family document for sailing on I.O.S and to take my 11 year old niece. I have had one done already but just by a solicitor not a notary will royal caribbean accept that or do you have to have a notary I am very confused :confused:the solicitor who did my form said that this was what I needed but I am worried it is not right Royal Caribbean are checking it over after I faxed them it but cant tell me till Monday I just wondered if anyone else in the UK had got one done thanks

Hels, just from experience with my clients, i would make sure that the doc above is altered a tiny bit so that it also contains the booking reference # of the cruise, and also has a one-liner saying that you are authorised to sign any waiver forms that are needed on the ship (like for the flowrider, rock climbing and iceskating.

 

Also have you looked at the RCI UK site recently - there is a link right on the front page that says 'travelling with minors' and you can download their recommended form from there too

Thanks for your help I do have a document sworn and signed by a solicitor but not notarized didnt understand that it was different until speaking to everyone else :eek:I just hope I manage to get one done this week I have no finger ends left I let you know how I get on

Just checked with my solicitor and she said to check the Law society site and you should find your nearest posted on there.

Many banks in the US have notaries......(that's why i was asking where you are located!:p) So....perhaps you can call your local branch and ask.

 

Generally they do not charge if you are a bank customer...(but they MIGHT-nowadays they need all the moolah they can get!)

The poster is in the UK so different to the way you do things.

Soliciters can do most of the things you mention but for some reason RCCL now want a Notary to sign their forms.

Usually a solicitors letter signed by all will do but not worth the risk as we heard of families being denied boarding on the Indie in May because they did not have this notary letter.

Our solicitor says it is very old fashioned so not many of them specialise in this type of work, but RCCL might just be giving them some more work :rolleyes:

In 2006 my son's friend needed to have a notarised letter to come with us on a cruise. I went to my local council service point and they had a list of all the notaries in our area. I think it cost around £75 to get the letter done :eek:.

thanks I got a price from the notary £85 which isnt bad but I alrady paid a solicitor £50 so making it expensive but I am just pleased that its getting sorted

Their policy in the new brochure now says legally affirmed or notarised, so I guess they have changed it so as to avoid confusion over Notarised, as we don't have lots of Notaries in teh UK, but plenty of Solicitors and Commisioner of Oaths.

Now that makes more sense to have "legally affirmed" also in the policy.."notarised" is not that well known in UK.

your telling me I until this weekend thought that a normal solicitor would have done with a document sworn and signed by them I have now found out what notaries are in this country and in the US think RCCL should be more clear for their british customers I spoke to various members of their team over the last couple of months regarding this matter and was told to get document off solicitor they should have said off a notary very confusing when you have never had to do it before:confused:

Looks like I am going to get it done thank goodness, I really do feel sorry for anyone who dosnt understand like myself until this weekend:confused:, anyone who isnt allowed to board my heart goes out to them wish I could let everyone in my situation know the full meaning of this letter and how to go about it I do blame RCCL for not explaining it properly with your cruise documents they should send a form out and explain in full what to do
