Look2Sea Posted June 10, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2009 Any thoughts or opinions on Hoonah sightseeing tour or walk around town on own?
Budget Queen Posted June 10, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2009 This really isn't the place to "walk around town" as the only thing to do. The "town" is a couple eateries, and a post office. "Icy Strait Point" which is a gated area, does have plenty to do, decent walking path, museum, ships tours to book. I would suggest you do your homework and find out about this port and determine what is of interest to you to occupy your time. IF the "town" is it, then go for it. MercedMike Posted June 10, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 10, 2009 Keith from Teckk Tours gave us the tour of Hoonah before taking us off on a whale watch. Took about three minutes. The house with the moose antlers in the yard was about the biggest attraction. However it is a very pretty walk of about a mile into the town and you will almost surely see the eagles sitting in the trees by the road. You can wind up at The Office and have wonderful crab, in the water this morning and on your plate this afternoon. This would be a very low key sort of day and if that is your preference you could do it. As BQ says, there is a tourist museum and some exhibits at the port itself, and a fairly nice walk along the beach. You could also just hang around and do that. I do suggest the bear watch, though. Check out our review and pics at http://www.elite.net/~thehalls/volendam.html HAVE A GREAT CRUISE!
