vintagebabe Posted June 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2009 I am curious too. We will be visiting Delphi during our Sorrento Stopover cruise on Quest leaving on October 7. Looks like from a map that the historical sites are not exactly on the coast. We were thinking about booking the Azamara shore excursion too. Hope someone relies and gives some feedback! clivep Posted June 26, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Public transport to Delphi is not very easy so we took a taxi. You want to be dropped at the archaeological site and picked up at the museum (which is next to the site). Buy a combined ticket for the site and museum. We thought a 2 hour visit would be about right and indeed it turned out to be so. In case of difficulties getting a taxi back we negotiated a price of 60 Euro for the journey to Dephi and the driver to pick us up outside the museum 2 hours from drop off. This seemed to be a standard practice and other taxi drivers were helpful in organising this if a particular driver did not speak English very well. The driver does not take any payment until the return trip is complete so you just know he'll be picking you up OK. As it turned out we need not have bothered making an arrangement in April as there were loads of taxis waiting for fares outside the museum but this may not be the case in the busier summer season. We shared the cab with our new friends from the cabin next to ours so the total cost worked out at 24 Euro per person (entrance to the site and museum are 6 Euro each or 9 Euro for a combined ticket).
