Cruiser Nonna Posted June 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2009 On previous Celebrity and RCCL sailings - we were able to get cash from the casino that was then charged to our stateroom account- we then could exchage the US dollars to foreign currency on the onboard bank - are they still allowing this? Definitely do not want to take cash as a cash advance on a credit card - hopefully one can still do it through the casino. Anyone have recent experience with this on Azamara? Thank you for your help! critterchick Posted June 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2009 Yes, you can. But they do charge a 3% cash advance, while the onboard ATM charges a flat $6. So depending on the amount you want to withdraw, the ATM may be less expensive. The onboard exchange rate in May was $1.43, which was the same as our bank charged us to purchase Euros before the trip. You can, of course, also use your bank ATM on shore, but make sure you contact your bank in advance so that the card isn't disabled. And check twice - we notified the bank before we left and had to contact them again because the ATM rejected our withdrawal attempt.
disneyfan1313 Posted June 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2009 Also of note is that most ATMs in Italy are of the "suck your credit card in and don't give it back until the end of your transaction type" which can be a bit scary if you are not 100% sure that your bank has authorized international transactions. Cruiser Nonna Posted June 16, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted June 16, 2009 Thank you for the update - on previous Celebrity - you had the choice of taking a "cash advance" from your credit card and they did charge 3% - or - if you took cash from the casino and had it charged to your onboard account there was no charge - but I guess that has changed. - I know that things can change quickly since last August and just wanted to be prepared. Thank you again for your help and time.
