So if we are looking for a cruise for summer of 2010 and we would like to travel out of here, we should wait or just book one out of Florida?

The full compliance for the ships is up in 2010 I think. This is why the QE2 is now gone....;) Cunard decided to cut her loose before that time...

Many other ships are gone for this reason over the past few years. To much money to get them to the "new" standard coming up...

Soon even sadly the old Regal Empress will be gone......

 

 

Isn't the Regal Empress already gone replaced by the Bahamas Celebration?

I know that Imperial Majesty Cruise Lines is over... I know the guy that did their PR stuff and he's with Celebration Cruise Lines although there's no connection between the two lines...

Right now there is no garantee that this would happen. There would have to be a large rennovation on the Holiday, but It would probobly go for the summer to Bermuda. Winter Months to Nassau and Freeport, and Fall Months to NY or something like that. To me, I am much more excited if they mainly focused on the first two I posted. Carnival would be doing itself a favor if they had a ship from Charleston going to Bermuda.

And the Pride that "just" goes to the Bahamas isn't all that exciting to me, either. It's cheaper to drive to Jax and take Fascination than to go to B'more and pay a ton for a cruise that just goes to the same old stops.

 

A ship in Charleston could do Bermuda/Bahamas itineraries.

 

And a ship in Norfolk could alternate 8-day Eastern (that could incorporate more than just the Bahamas) and 6-day Bermuda!

 

At least, in my brain they could. I don't know the logistics of it all, but it's obvious that Norfolk can handle the large ships.

 

Anyway, I'd happily sail Holiday out of Charleston. My first cruise was on Jubilee, and I'd love to sail another of that class before they're extinct.

There was a partial answer to your question about ports from the article.

 

The Holiday will sail from Charleston, SC on 5 - 7 day cruises to the North, with stops in New York, Boston, and Halifax in the Summer, and 5 - 7 day Caribbean cruises with stops in Bahamas and Key West during the fall and winter.

Wikipedia isnt really a "scam" its just not reliable, there is no fact checking.

 

Usually the stuff that is added is something they know will get a rise out of people.

 

If there had been an announcement last month, anyone would be able to find it on the various Carnival news sites or even in a Charleston, Wilmington or Norfolk newspaper. I think the desire for a ship in these areas is clouding the reasoning abilities of some posters, probably playing right into the hands of the person that submitted the info to Wikipedia.

 

The way the rumor mill(crew,staff,terminal workers, Mobile) on Holiday has always churned out info, it would be shocking that they wouldnt have any info on this.

What would be even better, totally getting too wishful, is that Jacksonville would not build their new cruise terminal, and they would send their ship to Charleston with the Evolutions of Fun upgrades in January. There have been a lot of posts about moving a ship to Charleston, and I would love to see Carnival move up here. If Carnival can dock the Carnival Glory, they can dock pretty much almost any of the Carnival fleet.

 

 

Please do not wish our ship away!:eek: I would be totally lost if I didn't get to see her once a week.:( I wish the Port Authority would get on the ball and find a new place to build....

Nonsense. Everything on the internet is either real or true. I think it's against the rules to even put a web page up with misleading information. :D So let me make this official... Short, overweight, balding, asthmatic, poor guys make the best lovers.

 

I'm booked on the last "known" sailing of the Holiday under the Carnival flag. I'd almost be disappointed now if they didn't retire it. Part of my reasoning for booking that one is that it would be a more festive atmosphere. Plus, they might not be so picky if I lift one of those bath robes.

My family and I sailed 3 times in the past year on the Majesty. Being a smaller, older ship, nearby, made cruising more often affordable. Its nice to drive an hour and a half and be at the pier. We will miss that crew they were great. Hopefully Carnival, will place a ship there. Celebrity is putting a ship there for a few months according to info I have seen on the web. But in the meantime, we will drive to FL to sail, a good excuse to see the in'-laws who live outside of Orlando.:D:D

I would be doing the hokey pokey if Carnival put a ship here permanently!! We've been waiting for a great line to be here for a while.

 

We had the Truimph for a little while, but she hadn't been updated then, and while X is OK...it's not really for us with 4 kids under 15. NCL....haven't tried them, but I'm not sure freestyle would work for us, either. We've heard horrific things about this line, in particular. Not saying we wouldn't try it, but I'm not looking for it.

 

I'd be tickled pink if she came here and I'd love to see a Royal Caribbean right behind her!! :D

Well, you might get away with a robe, but don't get your expectations too high for the Final Cruise. We did the last Celebration sailing (and many on her before that) and were really looking forward to a big hurrah. Instead it was a normal cruise. The Captain (who had sailed her for several years) got a bit choked up at the Past Guest party when talking about the last voyage, but really that was about it.

 

But.... if you go not expecting much and they surprize you, then so much the better!

Oh, I see some of you have been asking about this Wikipedia entry

In May 2009, Carnival announced that the Holiday may not be bound for service as the Grand Holiday as early stated. The Holiday may remain in Carnival’s fleet and sail from Charleston, SC on 5 – 7 day cruises to the North, with stops in New York, Boston, and Halifax in the Summer, and 5 – 7 day Caribbean cruises with stops in Bahamas and Key West during the fall and winter. Carnival also stated that they may ad up to four, 8 day Bermuda cruises as well. The move comes as Norwegian Cruise Lines ends its current sailing from Charleston, SC early in 2010 and also based on the twice a year sailing that Carnival currently offers from the SC port, have meet with a great deal of success. The ship may also see some service out of Norfolk, Va, and Wilmington, NC.

The Carnival spokesperson also stated that Charleston, SC and Wilmington, NC are both busy tourist destinations in their on right, and both cities are within a short driving distance from Myrtle Beach, SC which is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Eastern United States, so it only makes sense to put a “Fun Ship” close by. The Port of South Carolina cruise terminal is expected to see a face lift, using the stimulus money if the deal comes through as expected.

The Holiday will undergo some much needed improvements and repairs including, plumbing and propulsion repairs, crew area improvements and repairs, some minor cabin upgrades, and the addition of a retractable covering over the aft area of the Lido deck, similar to the bigger ships in the Carnival fleet. Once the Holiday is refurbished the company plans to rename her the Carnival Holiday.

Well, good old Wikipedia……that’s the same Wikipedia that Governor Schwartzaneggerererererere wants kids to learn from once they have burned all their textbooks. I hope their knowledge of the American Civil War is better than what they wrote about the Holiday because I am sorry to say to those who read this and got excited that a ship would be based out of beautiful Charleston that its not true…….it was never planned or discussed. I will say that we would love to have Charleston as a homeport and one day that may come to be ……but not with the Holiday which is still being transferred to our sister company.

I wouldn't take what John says as the last word... He's the head cruise director, not the CEO. I'm guessing they don't tell him everything that goes on in every meeting, and I'm guessing that he may have occasionally fibbed a little in order to toe the company line. You don't poop where you eat.

 

In this case, however, I'm inclined to believe him... If they've decided to home port the Holiday on the east coast at the beginning of next year, I'd think they'd WANT to get the word out and start booking post-dry dock cruises as quickly as possible.

I never realized just how easy it was to edit Wiki pages... I think I just managed to remove all that stuff about the Holiday being kept under the Carnival flag. No login. No reason. Just edit and save.

 

Maybe I should've put something in there about the new Carnival policy to let fat guys cruise free, so long as they compete in the bellyflop competition.
