Another Money Question

Ok..I know there are tons of money questions on these boards, but I have another!! Don't shoot me please! LOL

So how much total money to you bring. SO far I have $1000 on my credit card that will be linked to my S&S card. And I am planning on $200 in cash. We are not big shoppers and probably won't go to the straw markets and what not. But does that sound good? Also can you use your S&S card in port? We will be in Freeport, Grand TUrk and Half Moon Cay.

I appreciate your help greatly!:)

Our last cruise was 7 days, we had about $600.00 cash. Still used the credit card. But that's us. The only place you can use your S&S is on the ship. Grand turks is wonderful, we had to buy shirts in Margarettaville(hope that's spelled right) anyway have a great cruise we stll have 200 days to go.

I think a lot depends how much stuff you plan to buy while in port. I know that we brought $300 for our 7 day Valor cruise but since we don't drink, we didn't spend any $$ for them while in restaurants. Probably the biggest place we ended up spending the money was on tips. I would also recommend trying to bring small bills ($1's, $5's, and $10's) since that way you can give AN EXACT TIP. I also know that some of the bigger ships have ATM's if you do run out of cash (but they charge a lot so be prepared for that). :)

Our first cruise we spent a lot of money (pictures, casino, acupucture, etc.). We don't drink but went on excursions. We now know what we want. It sounds like you have enough money for the time.

Does anybody know what bank the atms belong to on carnival? Most atms are supported by a bank and thus if you belong to that bank you dont have to pay extra fees and such. I have bank atlantic, Princess ships had that atm, thus i didnt pay any extra fees =)

We've learned not to purchase photos, maybe only one, on cruises (so don't purchase any until the end of your cruise. Compare them first and pick your favorite. They show them right off the bat and hope you keep buying them.) We don't drink, so no expense there except for my one time per cruise virgin pina colada. I have occasionally gotten a spa treatment, but they are pricey and when you add tip it gets up there. So spa goodies are not necessary for us. I do like to gamble, but we are really chintzy with our money there. We don't do the ship's shore excursions, but will rent a vehicle or purchase our own taxi or excursion when on shore.

I guess we probably spend the most money on the islands. It sounds to me like you have enough, but it just depends on what you like to spend it on. However, if you have a budget, it'll keep spending under control.

One time we accidently got our cabin neighbor's bill slid under our door. The first thing I looked at was the price, and it was in the thousands. My jaw dropped, and I scanned the items: booze. Then I realized it wasn't our bill. Whew. I don't have anything against drinkers, but I can see that it is very costly.

You may take advantage of some laundry services or purchase something off of the ship for souvenirs. The best thing to do is ocassionally check on your balance at the front desk and keep up with it.

Have fun, and try not to worry about money!

If you are not going to the casino, then you should have plenty with you from what you described...

But just remember, your tips come off the top, two people, seven days $140.00 on your sign and sail card when you walk on board.

Those drinks add up, keep an eye on that. Also any photos you might buy, particularily if your a new cruiser. Also ship souveniers, and port stuff as well.

But I think you should be ok and coming home with three to four hundred in your pocket still - if you don't gamble/much.

If you have a credit card on file, will the ship give you cash against the credit card? (cash advance?)

Go to the casino and put sail and sign in the slot machine then cash out you will get no fees

In my opinion, $200 in cash is not enough. Just bring some extra and keep it in the safe. I don't drink, don't buy pictures or gamble much. I doubt $200 would last us for 2 days.

As said, tips, shopping in ports, food off the ship, odds & ends will add up fast.

I think $200 may not be enough..don't forget taxis as this adds up. Are you flying in a day early? If so, there may be taxis $'s there too. Most of the time we eat on the ship while in port, but depending on the logistics of where the ship's docked and how easy it is to get back on and off - we occasionally eat on the island - that too can add up - unless you want to put it on a card.

I guess over-all my biggest worry would be having enough for the taxis and the occasional purchase ( many crafts etc you'll need cash) I know you said you're not a big shopper, but that's what I thought...on our first cruise there were several times I wished I had brought more cash.

I think $250-$300 would be plenty based on what you've said you plan to do. I bring more cash and if we don't spend it, we put it towards the dreaded sail and sign bill at the end.

I am probably one of the most thrift spendy Carnival Cruises ever. I do not drink (alcohol or soda). I usually only book one excursion with Carnival and limit myself to one phot per cruise. I have managed to walk away with my sail and sign account for as little $300 with tips. However, the $200 cash might not go very far on the islands. I would plan for at least $400 cash. I rarely used it all, but it was nice to have in hand for any "just have to have" souveneirs I find on the islands.
