Vancouver hotel - lots of stars for fewer dollars

Recommended Posts

We're leaving for Alaska this weekend and we're looking for a hotel for two nights post-cruise. We used Priceline for this Friday night's pre-cruise hotel and got the 4* Hyatt downtown for $80 which we're pleased with.

Post-cruise, we plan to sightsee outside of Vancouver so we have reserved a rental car, but we want to stay in the Vancouver area as a home-base. We don't need to stay downtown nor near the airport as our flight doesn't leave until noon.

All this being said, can someone recommend which area of Vancouver we should bid on to get a highly rated hotel at low cost? We're booking two rooms per night and these extra hotel nights sure add up $$ quick. Also, if we stayed downtown we would have to factor in the expensive parking costs which we'd like to avoid.

The other areas on Priceline's map include North Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Langley, etc. - any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

It is really going to come down to what you what to see post cruise, however, being a north shore guy I am going to to go with North Vancouver as that will put you closer to things like the Capilano Suspension Bridge, the Grouse Mountain Skyride and Whistler if these are on you agenda. From the North Vancouver you are only 20 mins (non-rush) hour to downtown Vancouver, Granville Island, Stanley Park and most other downtown sights. That said, there are only two 3* hotels on the north shore those being the Lonsdale Quay Hotel and the Holiday Inn (which tends to be out of the way). I also think that you are not going to save much if anything by going out to the 'burbs with Priceline and then you have to consider your time, cost of fuel..... you have the picture.

Burnaby would be an option but Surrey and Langley are just too far out. However you may want to consider the airport area but my comments above still hold true with regard to cost savings still hold true.
