Crewzer33 Posted June 22, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Due to high school and college schedules, our family is only able to cruise during New Year's week this year. In comparing Royal Caribbean's Freedom class ships (and we have been on all of them), to Princess' Crown Princess (out of Fort Lauderdale), I have found there to be a total difference of upwards of THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS for all of us for that week!!! We are doing an outside balcony for us and an inside across the hall for them. I just can't justify spending that much more money for Royal. tropiclvrs Posted June 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 22, 2009 I'd say that's a smart decision considering that Royal and Princess are in the same "class." It's not like you are trading down, so good move!
Kittycatwlv Posted June 22, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Princess is similar to RCL so you'll have just as good a time, maybe more knowing you saved a small fortune :D
Cthy651 Posted June 22, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 22, 2009 I have sailed on Princess, as well as Royal - and I am sure you will have a wonderful time, $3000.00 difference is just too much to pass up.;)
Puffinater Posted June 22, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Kinda in the same boat looking at the Mexican Riviera. Not a $3000 savings but a nice chunck of change none the less.
Arizona Cruz Chic Posted June 22, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Man....3K is a lot of moola.....I'd jump ship too!!! :D The 3K you are now saving could buy another cruise! ;) ***
enyaw Posted June 22, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 22, 2009 You've made a smart decision! Although my favorite line is Royal Caribbean, the Crown Princess is probably one of my all time favorite ships! The best meal I've ever had on a cruise was in the Crown Grill. Don't miss it!
HRHPrinceJim Posted June 22, 2009 #10 Share Posted June 22, 2009 I've dumped my Mariner reservation for NYE to go on Sapphire Princess. I'll be sailing in a mini-suite for $1000 less than the D-1 I had on the Mariner.
Wilda Posted June 22, 2009 #11 Share Posted June 22, 2009 We have done both Crown and Liberty; both excellent ships! For $3,000 I wouldn't think twice!!!!!:D
suni Posted June 23, 2009 #12 Share Posted June 23, 2009 I agree....$3000 is a lot of money. But We have decided after MANY trips that RCCL blows Princess away. If money were no object...............

The Grumpus Posted June 23, 2009 #14 Share Posted June 23, 2009 We jumped ship this New Years as well. We wanted Freedom o/t Seas but decided on the new Carnival Dream after comparing the price difference between the two. With 4 balcony cabins our family will save a total of $6000 and change combined. We have sailed Freedom twice but even if we had not, the cost difference is too great and would still be the deciding factor -- but hey, more power to them if they can fill ships at those prices. I'm sure we will still have a good time; the sad thing is, I'm fairly sure RCCL will drop the prices but only after we've made final payment for the Dream and it's too late to switch.
unklez Posted June 23, 2009 #15 Share Posted June 23, 2009 $3K is a lot of moolah. Enjoy it on Princess!
Hondu Posted June 24, 2009 #16 Share Posted June 24, 2009 Smart, smart, smart!!!!!!!! Why pay $3000 more for a few additional amusement park attractions.
dutchess43 Posted June 24, 2009 #17 Share Posted June 24, 2009 This is a no brainer. I was on the Crown last year(15 day TA) & it is a very pretty ship. I hate to say this because food is subjective but we love beef & found the beef dinners on the Crown were excellent. I cannot say that on the NOS that we just sailed this past April. Smart move & enjoy the cruise 3,000 buys a lot.
