TeresaJenkins Posted December 17, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2004 I just bought a nice set of Snorkeling gear, but have a question about the fins. Do they rub, and if so will socks help? What kind of socks? Thanks a bunch! TeresaJenkins My 1st cruise NCL Majesty Jan. 1-8 2005 WC. Charleston- GCayman- Cozumel- Key West
sailingangel Posted December 17, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2004 I don't wear socks with full footed fins. As far as I know - they don't rub. As a diver, I use the set of boots and open heel fins, but I used to have full foot fins when I was younger. If you got the right size, they should be very comfortable. Hilary Posted December 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 17, 2004 You probably won't know until you use them. I also use an open heel fin for diving and snorkeling, but mine are so comfortable that I don't have to wear boots with them. Like many things, snorkel (and dive) equipment comfort/fit varies from person to person. Have a wonderful time on your cruise. T-minus 2 weeks, huh?? (we leave tomorrow for ours)
SandDollar Laura Posted December 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2004 Here in Cozumel, that's the only type of fins that we purchase for all of our snorkeling and diving excursions. They fit comfortably, come in a variety of sizes and you don't need any additional gear, like booties and socks. As a dive instructor, that's why I use em (the less stuff I have to carry the better!!) Hope that answers your question, if you have any more, just shoot me an e-mail. I'll be happy to help. templed Posted December 17, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 17, 2004 I prefer to wear my nepryn (sp) boots with open fins... If I crawl out of the water... it's nice to have some protection... but... as other have said... it's all just personal preference
Snorkelcat Posted December 18, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 18, 2004 I wear thin anklet sockies. Thin enough not to add bulk, but thick enough to protect. I am not speaking of the thick tennis anklets, but thin. Of course they are black to blend into the fins!!!! :D

TeresaJenkins Posted December 18, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted December 18, 2004 Thanks for all the help everyone. I'll take some thin "black" footies just in case, but I hope I won't need them. I am so excited about this trip I can hardly think of anything else! LOL
simonv Posted December 20, 2004 #9 Share Posted December 20, 2004 My husband wears old soxs with his full fin. He says they rub. But mine are fine without anything. If it's your first time, take an old pair of socks just in case, because you don't know till you actually use them.
