What clothes to bring

What do I bring for evening wear? Khakis and a polo/izod short sleeve (aka, "business casual")? Do I pack a suit? A sports coat?

The daytime wear will primarily be shorts, tshirt, and sneakers but I wasn't sure about night time.

Ok this is the official word from Carnival:

What to Wear?spacer.gifCasual attire is the order of the day. We suggest shorts, sundresses, tank tops, etc. for the ladies, and for men; shorts, polo shirts, T-shirts, etc. will do. We suggest you wear rubber-soled, low heeled or flat shoes for extra traction while onboard. The use of any footwear with wheels, including but not limited, to Heelys© shoes, is prohibited on board our ships. For dining you may want to dress up a bit and/or bring along a light sports jacket or cardigan.

Most evenings we have a Cruise Casual dress code, but there are those Cruise Elegant evenings one or two nights throughout your “Fun Ship” voyage, where you will have the opportunity to showcase your more elegant attire. For those who want casual attire for dinner time, the Lido Restaurant is open nightly, and has a more relaxed theme. However, shirts and shoes/footwear (flip-flops) must be worn at all times inside the Lido Restaurant.

Both dress codes for the dining rooms are described below.

Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts; Ladies - Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs).

Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men and baseball hats.

Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies - Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you‘d like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too!

Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats.

That being said, it is your vacation, wear whatever is comfortable for you.

Khakis & polo - perfect. You won't need a sport coat. Suit for formal night is good or tux.

Just don't wear your "wife beater" to the dining room - even if it is your best one! ;) (Yes, we had the pleasure of sitting next to someone like this on our last Carnival cruise!)

We're still packing, but I noticed lots of our clothes need hangers. Will there be a hanger shortage on the ship, or can they locate? I know dumb question, but the wife wanted me to ask..

The one thing I always got tons of use out of is a sweater as some rooms are very cold with the air conditioning and so many of the dressy clothes are sleeveless.

Sorry OP from your question, you are clearly a guy, but for you ladies out there throw in that light weight neutral sweater.

That's funny, 3 years ago we were seated at a table for 12 on a RCCL ship and everyone was dressed cruise casual except one man, he was wearing shorts, a wife beater t-shirt, and flip flops, well during the dinner one of the young men in his party asked him about a ring he was wearing and he said he had it made the last time he was in prison. It was an interesting cruise. Other people's clothes don't really matter to us, but it was an odd conversation going on each night at our table.:p

I always bring a few extra hangers of my own--especially the "clip hangers" good for slacks & skirts. A few years ago, I actually asked the steward if it was possible to get extra hangers and he provided us with quite a few. They were plastic tubular hangers (possibly) left by a previous passenger--not the "hotel" type without the "hook".
