Alaska - Landtour - Food choices

I am looking for information about Fairbanks, McKinnley Lodge and Denail Lodge.

Here are my two issues:

1. 2 kids - I don't want sit down breakfasts everyday with them. Cereal, poptarts, donuts, easy stuff

2. I am trying to eat more healthy. Low fat, low calories, fruit.

What are my options?

Thanks,

It has been a while since we did Alaska with Princess - I don't think they have easy stuff like you want - we found that breakfasts were at the low end about $15pp. Also since they are in the wilderness there are no places you can go for fast food.

A suggestion - pack some small boxes of cereal - A glass of milk may cost you $2, but it is better than spending your bankroll for b'fast.

Also, be prepared to spend about $20 - $50 for dinner - they may have a childrens menu - not sure.

We're doing the same lodges in August. I looked at their web pages and I know one of them had pub food. I dont plan on spending $50.00 for dinner after the cost of the cruise and tour. Hopefully we can all find something more affordable.

Its been a number of years since we did a land Alaska tour but did stay at the Denali Princess Lodge. As i recall it had several levels of food service. One was a cafe with prepared food pre placed on plates. The servings were large enough that they could be shared even between two adults. I would have thought that $15 for breakfast and $50 each for dinner was exorbitant and would remember that. I dont have any memory of how much the food was. It might be hard to pack snacks for the kids. They allowed us to take only one small suitcase into Denali. The rest got forwarded on to the ship. You might be able to call Princess or have your TA verify that. It was tough for even two adults to repack to have the right stuff with us after the long tiring flight to Alaska.

Denali has a small walk up counter in their main lodge. I think you will be able to get the kids what they want for breakfast from there without going broke. (They also serve ice cream.)

They has had a restaurant that served pizzas and sandwiches. Accross the highway, there is a Subway.

The King Salmon restaurant at the Denali Lodge wasn't too bad. I got a portbello mushroom sandwich with homemade potato chips. It was about the same price I paid for a Subway sandwich across the street.

River Run Expresso

For quick service items including pastries and yogurt

Denali Sourdough Breakfast Expedition

This is in the Music of Denali Theater

All you can eat family style breakfast

They also have a gift shop that sells packaged snacks and candies

All the buildings had vending machines with soda and water.
