We are in the process of planning a west coast cruise to Alaska along with the west coast to as far south as San Diego. What time of year is our question would cruisers prefer to sail.Weather,is probably our first concern having read previous posts regarding how bad the site seeing was due to overcast conditions. We appreciate any and all feedback and welcome any helpful suggestions. We're not new to cruising but have not done Alaska as of yet. Thanks John

Of course Alaska is "hit and miss" as far as weather goes. But if you check out historic weather patterns for Alaska the least chance for rain is the last half of May and June according to the NWS. The problems with those months is that bear sightings aren't as numerous because the salmon run isn't in full swing. A plus is the insect population isn't as bad.

But anytime is a good time to visit Alaska.

You are looking for a San Diego/Alaska cruise? This is ONLY going to be available to you with a repositioning sailing, very begining or end of the season. Not available in "summer". You have a LOT of rough sailing potential on this itinerary.

Thanks for feedback,we do most of our cruising in the fall months not so much the summer but we look at the full range of options that we have to choose from and go from there. We are also interested in the Noregian fjiords but choices are limited to June or July and the $$$ is not a great value.Alaska has many cruise options. We like to take 12 to 14 days cruises if possible and we may want to include part of the west coast along with the Alaska itinerary. Thanks again John

NCL runs a once/year Norway sailing in June every year that is excellent. I did it last year, and although certainly it would be better to be on land for days, the cruise was a very cheap Norway access. The particular sailing I was on had 8 Norway port, and had 3 1/2 days of daylight sailing with crossing the Arctic Circle. The ports were varied and all interesting, the sailing extremely scenic. :)
