7 Night Alaska Hubbard Glacier Cruise vs 10 Night Ultimate Alaska

We make a booking for sep 7 night cruise for Alaska. Looking at the 10-night it covers 3 extra palces Skagway, Icy Strait Point, Sitka, Alaska. Are these 3 places worth visiting after seeing other places. Is there anything that is only possible in these 3 stops not possible in the other 7-day tour stops.

Thanks in advance.

Come on the 10 nighter with us! there is a whole group going ...check out the boards......

We've previously done the 7 nighter on Mercury, but also haven't visited a couple of the ports on the 10 nighter.....so we're looking forward to it. And September is a great time since most of the kids are back in school so there are few families and children onboard.

We did the 13 night Ultimate Alaska LA-Vancouver in May and loved all the ports. Icy Straight Point is unspoilt Alaska, not full of tacky shops and (other) tourists, with some good locally run wildlife and fishing trips available. Only one ship at a time in port.

We did our wildlife tour with another couple on Glacier Wind with Captain Shawn McConnell. A tip here, if you like to see/spot wildlife go for a small boat tour, if you want to video or photo wildlife your probably better on one of the larger tour boats which are less affected by the swell on the ocean.

We are on that cruise as well as Bububr, and I highly reocmmend the itinerary. Sitka, ISP and Skagway are really very interesting.

And to boot....you get all the shopping bargains~!:D We did this cruise last year and are repeading it, we loved it so much.

Hi,

My $0.02 bits ( in C$ !!! ) ; take the 10 day !! hands down.:):)

We've done both....10 days in Alaska is just better !! You get Hubbard eitherway and prolong your experience up in Alaska.

We did an ''ultimate Alaska''last September ( like GraceCarmo ) and loved it. Will repeat next May.

Cheers;)

We did a 14 night Alaska repo cruise on Serenade OTS in May. The three additional ports you mentioned were probably our favorites on the cruise.

Sitka is a very nice small town. We really enjoyed Sitka.

Icy Strait is a tourist built facility in an old cannery. It is well laid out and has a zip line, restaurants, hiking trails and a jumping off point for shore excursions. ISP is near the town of Hoonah. Not much in Hoonah, but it is an authentic Alaskan town.

Skagway is a tourist town, but if you get there make sure to go on the White Pass and Yukon Railway.

Keep in mind the fun of being on the ship for an extra 3 nights. In addition to the appeal of extra ports, the extra nights will probably allow for an even more relaxed vacation experience. Also, Sitka is a nice and authentic place to visit, with some tours unique to the area. If interested, I have some photos posted from a Mercury trip in 2008 at http://www.proszowski.com/photo_albums/2008_Alaska_Cruise/Photos.html

Hi Mycruise200,

For obvious reasons I'm going to strongly encourage you to come on the 10-day cruise! As the host of the Roll Call for that cruise, we'd love to have you join us!!

You've already been 'welcomed' by members of our Roll Call — hey, Bubu; hi, Grace — so I'm 'thirding' their motion that we vote for the "Ultimate Alaska" sailing!

For the value of the cruise (10-day cost vs. 7-day cost), I don't think you can possibly go wrong doing the 10-day. There are all the advantages already pointed out by others, and, following your original query, there are many things only available, totally unique to these three ports.

We hope to see you over on our Roll Call very shortly!

CM
