Do you need advice about Stockholm?

What about transportation directly from the airport to the Radisson Blu Strand? Are there shuttle buses that connect with the hotels. My husband is fit & hardy but is 80 and I'm 73. Don't feel like schlepping luggage on trains or from bus stops to hotel.

Do you know if there is a HOHO stop near our hotel?

I know the ships dock at various locations, but is it possible to answer a question about how far our hotel might be from where they dock (in particular, Oceania ships).

I don't know, I think the best way to find out is to contact the hotel.

yeah Strömma Blue HoHo bus.

Thanks for answering a lot of questions. Hopefully, I have an easy one.

National Day - June 6th 2013 Are things on a "normal schedule", shut down, or depends on the venue?

I was able to verify the Vasa Museum is open, . . . but could not confirm if City Hall is open to tours, what the stores usually do (open, closed, reduced hours), transportation schedule, etc.

Any must see special things happening because of the holiday?

As you say Vasa is open but some shops might be closed or have limited opening hours, public transportation uses Sunday schedule.

As for City Hall, I don't know but I don't think it will be available for the general public since it will be used for other activities during that day.

You send them an email and ask.

cityhalltours.slk@stockholm.se

The Royal Palace with its smaller museums will be open.

For others in Stockholm on this day, . . . this is the response from the folks at City Hall. Not definative, but not looking good either.

Hello,

Thank you for your e-mail. We are glad to hear that you are interested in a guided tour of the Stockholm City Hall, but unfortunately it is most likely that the City Hall will be closed on June 6th. If it is open it will be open a couple of hours in the morning, so please contact us again closer to the date June 6th to get up-to-date information.

Best regards

Any good recommendations on which archipelago islands i should visit? cruise ship leaves at 5pm so I'm hoping to get out early and see some islands. is waxholmsbolaget a good way to get around the archipelago? http://www.waxholmsbolaget.se/visitor/day-tours/

any help is much appreciated!

There aren't that many options then going with Vaxholmsbolaget.

The Cinderellaboats have some lines though.

As for destinations I don't have much experience.

http://www.visitskargarden.se/en/destinations/lista/1/

But some suitable destinations might be:

Gällnö:

I noted the thread above about City Hall open/closed on June 6th, National Day. Would you anticipate that the HopOn-HopOff buses and ferries would be running that day? It seems like that might be a better option than trying to self-guide on the holiday. Thanks.

yes they are running, although I don't think there would be any problem

with DIYS as wasa and Royal palace will be open. Buses and etc

will also be running even though they use a Sunday schedule.

As for Gamla Stan's shops some might be closed and some others are most likely open.

I've done the the bus and boat tours and I did not like them.

------------

anyway I found an interactive map of Gamla Stan:

The closest island is Fjäderholmarna : http://www.fjaderholmarna.se/english/start.4.1a2467a10ad032dc26800015081.html

There is a regular ferry that goes between Stockholm (right next to the ferry to Vasa/Djurgården) and the island. It's pretty small and not really that much to do. There is a small whiskey distillery there and some shops and cafe/restaurants. Check the site for more.

There is an overhwhelming of information in this thread, so I apologize if this question has been asked already.

We will be porting in Stockholm on Norwegian Star on Saturday June 1st. I believe we will be porting at the Frihamanen port.

If I am not mistaken, the bus driver does not sell bus tickets. So where can I buy the bus tickets at Frihamanen port? What are the different ticket option available?

We are still trying to figure out where to go, but for sure Vasa Museum and Gamla Stan. If we only goto these 2 places, is it better to pay for each trip seperately, or should we get a day pass for the transit?

Thank you very much!

We really want to see the island vaxholm via http://www.waxholmsbolaget.se/

for 75 krona, there is a boat from stromkajen to vaxholm. approx 1hr.

the problem is, we're not sure yet where our cruiseship (ms rotterdam) will dock. it would be helpful to know so that we can plan how to get to the stromkajen terminal.

does anyone know how i can figure out where our cruiseship will dock in stockholm?

Like magemadness says, your ship will be moored at a buoy and you will be dropped off at Skeppsbron (i am not sure exactly where).

But it will be something like this: https://maps.google.se/maps?saddr=Skeppsbrokajen&daddr=Stockholm+Str%C3%B6mkajen&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&ll=59.328401,18.075546&spn=0.003618,0.014795&sll=59.327374,18.075999&sspn=0.014471,0.05918&geocode=FQ06iQMd3tITAQ%3BFalKiQMdLc8TASlBKKO6WZ1fRjEM6UevF1I0fQ&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=pd&z=17

Thank you for asking this! We are on the NCL Star for this trip as well and we would like to from the ship to the Vasa first. I'm having such a hard time figuring Stockholm out for this trip that any info would be much appreciated - especially which bus to take, etc. It's so confusing and I don't know why. We'd also love to see the changing of the guards and visit the Gamla Stan.

I second, third, fourth all of this. Months ago, when we were planning Stockholm, I dove into all of this information. The info doesn't seem to be cut and dry. There seems to be a lot of walking involved and waiting at bus stops. Frankly, with 7 hours to work with and a beautiful city to take in, I gave up. After I had everything planned, it just seemed overwhelming to have our group of 5 commuting everywhere via public transportation in such a short time.

We booked a tour and that was that.

I wasn't overly thrilled with any of the tours for the prices they were - plus we like just wandering at our own pace whenever we feel it's feasible. Unfortunately, this seems so much more complicated than when I planned our Mediterranean cruise a couple years ago. I think if I could just figure out the buses (and maybe perhaps how to pronounce some names of things!) I'd be okay. I think I finally have Helsinki (almost) down - but Stockholm is proving to be a bit more difficult. Being that our cruise is in 18 days - I figured I better kick it in gear!

I'm not sure but I think I've read that there is a TI at Frihamnen. I think you should be able to buy your tickets there. Did you search the Stockholm advice thread? You want bus 76 if it runs on Jun 1. Here is a thread where the HOHO bus was discussed:
