big_duck Posted July 6, 2009 #76 Share Posted July 6, 2009 Wow. I can't imagine getting this upset while I'm on vacation, and then to have it end up on Youtube for everyone to see how foolish and ignorant you look. Hope I never have to cruise with a bunch like this; I would stay as far away from them as possible. Just a bunch of Heatleys as far as I`m concerned.

falconfan Posted July 6, 2009 #79 Share Posted July 6, 2009 After watching the whole video, including the three minutes it took to find someone with a loud voice, and reading all the posts I still have one question: What is it that they wanted? They were refunded their port fees, just like we were last year when we missed Belize. They were refunded their excursion fees, if they were purchased through Carnival. I can't speak for outside purchases. Most importantly, They were kept safe and healthy.

jonesbk Posted July 6, 2009 #81 Share Posted July 6, 2009 Wow, perfect example of what NOT to do if you get a port canceled. I'm really surprised the Captain did not have security escort each and every one of em to their cabins and lock em in for the remainder of the cruise. From the sounds of it, they were signing a petition. Heh, might as well be signing your entrance to prison papers...... What part of being on a foreign flagged vessel in foreign waters don't they get? Not to mention Carnival is not responsible for missed ports. They even REFUND the port charges and refund any excursions booked through the cruise line. IMHO, it costs Carnival MORE to miss the ports as they then have to use all of that fuel to putt putt around while folks whine about missing ports. But, then again, there is the increased bar revenue...... ;) I do SO hope Carnival has a "blacklist" and has added that lady and the other members of that mob. That "peaceful" assembly could have turned ugly very quickly. Not to mention she already had a letter from the GSA, possibly the Hotel Director, stating that she was already causing a scene and needed to calm down. So this "assembly" happened AFTER she had already been asked to tone it down...... Score: Carnival 1 vs "Crazy Lady with no idea"
BlueJacketsFan1 Posted July 6, 2009 #82 Share Posted July 6, 2009 This just proves that there are a lot of crazy people in the world. The cost of the cruise is for your time on the ship, not for the ports. The ports are a plus to the cruise. I say they should of gotten names and simplly banned all of them from ever cruising again. I love the part about the first amendment. The ship is private property too. So Carnival has the right to refuse passage to anyone. The part about trying to stop payment of credit cards. There is 500 of us, so that a joke. How many people fill bankrupsy a week, or are months behind. I don't think that they are going to get hurt that bad. Putting it on you tube, what wouldn't any news network air it.
sharonh1885 Posted July 6, 2009 #83 Share Posted July 6, 2009 I cannot help but be embarrassed for the family of that woman and those around her supporting her folly. UTube can be a place for a lot of fun, but this could prove to be a never ending ctirique of her character. But on a lighter note... And the lawsuit complaint will read: 1. Carnival failed to allow me into a country that might easily cost me my life even after I had spent $100 per person on a non-refundable debit card purchase over the internet with people I thought I could rely on for a shore excursion. Carnival should be responsible to either drop me in the middle of the civil unrest, or at least contact the tour operator to obtain my money back, assuming he is still alive. If not... get it from his family. 2. Carnival failed to compensate me fully for the missed Mexican port due to a flu outbreak that was clearly not my fault. I should not be denied access to a country with a deadly pandemic because I am American and can come and go wherever I please. Carnival should have been prepared for such an outbreak and provided medical attention to the country prior to my arrival. 3. Carnival was negligent by not protecting me from myself and my own stupidity. They provided me and my mob US 1st ammendment rights that permitted me to act foolish and make stupid statements as if I knew something about what is and is not maritime law, the country my Carnival ship is flagged or how much authority a ship's captain has when a foreign port is closed to the cruise ship. jensing317 Posted July 6, 2009 #84 Share Posted July 6, 2009 Geez what idiots. I'd rather be at sea that at a port where I might get sick or find myself in the middle of an uprising. I hope these people got what was coming to them.

salty dingo Posted July 6, 2009 #88 Share Posted July 6, 2009 My esteemed colleague from the Great State of North Carolina has stated that the woman is a yankee. From her accent, I would say she is not; she is a Noo Yawker. Yankees are gentle people from New England:p not ignorant loud mouths. I must admit ignorance as to the definition of Yankee. Down here, it's a term placed on anyone who is not a southern native. My Grandaddy was a full blown New Yorker so I have some sympathy for the breed. Regarding the idiots in the video, would not care if they spoke Yankee or Chinese, there's no excuse to take a happy situation like a cruise and demonstrate because you are unhappy with money issues. And, out at sea, it's not America, and you don't have freedom of speech. I think security should have busted up that party. Apparently, they had already caused a scene as shown by the letter threatening them with "any means necessary" and "local and federal authorities". That is some serious language. On an airplane it is a serious federal offense to disobey an order from a flight crew. At sea, it should be equally serious to do what those people did. They should have been arrested. Tatianablue Posted July 6, 2009 #92 Share Posted July 6, 2009 Stuff a sock in it already!!! I could not listen to more than half of this tape. They should have taken this woman, her family, friends and anyone else who was ignortantly following her, dumped them all on the first port they came to and left them behind! I am sure the other passengers would have been hanging over the rails clapping and cheering. Omgosh, I hope I never see or hear her loud trap flapping again! Get over yourself already! Carnival cannot be blamed for this near riot, they are always trying to protect their passengers, and I thank them and their crew for that! leedm Posted July 6, 2009 #94 Share Posted July 6, 2009 If anyone hears of what happen after the ship returned to port, please post the info. I agree this could have got out of hand quickly. I have been on 12 Carnival cruises and 3 have been changed for weather, or mechanical problems. I got home safe thanks to the captain, crew and carnival. leedm
sam1148 Posted July 6, 2009 #95 Share Posted July 6, 2009 I always have a great time when we miss a port. It's almost a relife for me because I just be on the ship and not worry about doing some planned thing. Does anyone know if this lady was part of group sailing? Some Teabaggers or something...they seemed to have some sort of 'group' type lynards in their costumes. (unless those were just ones they got on board..but they did all seem to be a 'group' of some sort).

mousey Posted July 6, 2009 #97 Share Posted July 6, 2009 Good grief, it must be such a burden carrying around that much anger and hostility :( Missing a couple of ports would be a disappointment, but would not ruin my cruise. Ending up on a ship with these people certainly would though. I totally agree with you. I got annoyed just watching part of the stupid video! If I were on that cruise I would have stayed as far away from these people as I possibly could. Everyone, that does any research before they cruise, knows that the cruiseline has a right to cancel a port if they feel it could harm the passengers in anyway, or if there is something wrong with the ship. These people obviously didn't research anything about crusing. While, I'm sorry they had to miss two ports, I think the way the handled the situation is very wrong! jessemon Posted July 6, 2009 #98 Share Posted July 6, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm0sIlNj4VE MrPete....Looked at 15 seconds of the video and was LMAO.... Myself and six friends were on the Glory the same week this happened on whatever ship that was. Two days before the cruise we were notified we were cruising eastern instead of western Caribbean...Oh well, who cares we were on a ship. We had a great time... To comment on people the type that were in that video.... Oh boo-hoo.....Put on you big boy/girl panties and get over it.... If someone were looking for myself and my friends we would have been the ones up on the Lido deck getting great service because all the chitheads were whining about missing ports. We not only had one less port, we went east instead of west...LMAO..... I just love the "I am owed everything just because I breathe air people"....
iv18-Diane Posted July 6, 2009 #99 Share Posted July 6, 2009 No, I think you misunderstood... the uprising was happening on the ship, not in the port. Also in the Port, Roaton is having political problems, so cancellation was to protect the passengers. http://www.boingboing.net/2009/06/28/honduran-coup-is-the.html Diane in Music City
