Question for cruisineurope or anyone else with info

Recommended Posts

I am booked on Ocean Princess in August 2010. One of our ports is Travemunde. I'm not finding much info on the Internet for this port. And there is nothing for excursions on the Princess website. I did read a quick blog that there was a carriage ride, but tried to google search and nothing comes up. I have requested a travel brochure from their tourist board. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this port? Where the ship docks? If there is a carriage ride? How far from the pier? What else is there to do here?

Thanks for any info provided.

Travemünde is part of Lübeck.

Check here:

You can go for Lübeck, Schwerin, Hamburg or see Kiel (Eutin/Malente/Plön only)

Thanks for the information. My friend and I have mobility issues, so if Princess doesn't offer any tours, maybe this will be a port that we will just walk the promenade at a slow pace.

You should visit this link:

Maybe it's a little bit early to book any tours from the ship.

You can check this site:

http://www.luebeck-cruise.de/content/view/23/31/

If you are interested to do something specific from the suggestion.

Let me know:

I can try to find a car with an English speaking driver for you.

The expenses for the shore excursion are on you.

It will cost you nothing to find you a suitable vehicle which can take you around. I think it's easier if I call in German around instead letting you do it from the US.

There is a boat from Lübeck to Travemünde as well.

If you can do small walks I would take the bus which starts 2 blocks away from the cruise terminal to Lübeck. Doing some photos and return by boat which stops few yards from Ostpreußenkai-Cruise Terminal.

In Travemünde there is a small road-"train" avaialable.

Scroll down.

This little train starts also only few yards away from the Cruise Terminal.

HeinBloed,

Thank you again for all your help. I like the looks of that little tourist train, I've saved that to my favorites. If I might impose on your expertise, this link was sent to me by the tourist board from Lubeck, can you translate and see if it states a cost and where it is located?

But we may not need to do the carriage ride, if that little tourist train is available, we can just do that.

Being a beach resort town, do you think Travemunde will be full of folks on the beach in August? I'm thinking that promenade is really going to be crowded.

I checked the website:

it's only for charter. There is no scheduled service available.

You can make a request and they quote for an individual tour.

Travemünde is seperated in two sections:

you are at the promenade at the river trave.

So the beach area is faced to the open sea.

Have a look to the blog-link. It's behind the high building of the Maritim-Hotel.

Do not forget to visit Niederegger (see also in the blog-link).

They have a branch in Travemünde just one block away from the Cruise Terminal.

I was able to help you with the German translation - no problem.

But maybe you need Estonian, Russian, Finnish, Swedish, Polish... etc.

You can always use this link to get a ROUGH translation word by word:

http://babelfish.yahoo.com/

It might help for your plannings.

That language translator website you provided should help alot. Although most of the websites I've been checking out, do offer an English button.

We will only be visiting England, Holland, Germany, Denmark & Norway on our short 7 night cruise. I wanted to see Oslo and Copenhagen (as I've not been there), but also wanted to take my friend to Amsterdam (I've been there).

HAL had a nice one this year, but they aren't repeating it next year, so had to switch over to Ocean Princess. They were the only one offering the short itinerary I wanted.

I think the small tourist train is looking the best for us, right now anyway.

Again, Danke!
