Yes I agree with you completely, it made me so mad I could have ripped someone’s face off! I was so angry that I told the guy that I could always get married but you would always be a *****! LOL We had justice thought, turns out they had there eye on one of the single young ladies in our group and we were unaware of this. We told her the story and she said oh God I want to punch that guy out and she went on and on! So later that night at the Casino we ran into the young lady in the group she was at the bar having a drink with them, she says Fred, come and meet these cool guys, and I said really you like these guys and I played it cool, as the young man slowly watched his chances go away! I said hey FYI- these were the guys that made that comment! She went ballistic! And they were so pissed, and she walked off with us and I just laughed! So in this instance we got revenge so I was happy about that!!!

FJS - Always good to hear a good ending to the story! :D

My upcoming cruise is with HAL, which, while a Carnival-owned cruise line, has a very different clientele and way of operating (from everything I've read). I think it will be the other end of the extreme from college kids...perhaps too much so. While we are in between the 2 age extremes, I'm adaptable...just looking for nice folks to meet, enjoy conversations and hang out with.

HAL is quite the other extreme from what I hear with respect to customer clientele. The newly wed or nearly dead rule doesn't even apply there. It's just the latter. LOL  The only other line I would venture from NCL for would be Princess and Princess would have to be cheaper and well that hasn't happened for many years now. Since Carnival took over Princess I've watched my favorite gay friendly line slip away and well it's helped me discover NCL! Can't wait for my cruise in January!!

I'm so jealous you guys are going before me!! :p

Don't be, just be happy that you will be going, and not to far away either!

Ah... 5 months is a long time when you have 3.5 months of school to do in between!!:) Like the saying goes... no pain... no gain! :D

Just wish there were some family on my sailing on here... been dusting off that roll call quite a bit. Seems like there are more family members using Cruise Critic to connect with each other but everyone's going everywhere so it's getting hard to keep track. Maybe they'll start subsections here soon based on cruise line?

I wish they would...or at least impose a common heading format (like "Roll Call: Line Ship date [yyyy-mm-dd]" eg "Roll Call: NCL Jewel 2009-10-30") so a quick visual scan or a search would work.

For the former, I suspect there isn't enough traffic and for the latter, if left up to individuals, the format would never be adhered to.

CruisinMaterial- you shouls just come with us in October then, there seems to be a good Roll Call for our group!

CanCruzer- I agree there should be a little more orginization when it comes to this, it never seems to be a problem on the main board?

CanCruzer - I agree... if some sort of protocol would be established there are those who go outside said protocols for setup of a thread name. I try and use the same format for mine each time. Name of ship, date of sailing and destination do tend to help things with obvious abbreviations being used to fit it all in a viewable area. Seems like the most roll calls are NCL, Princess and Celebrity. Most of the other lines could just be in a general roll call area. I think the break down would help more keeping a general area bout issues related to the GLBT community and cruising!

FJS - I would LOVE to go but school is in session which is preventing me from going at most times of the year that are really cheap! :( I guess I should go dust off my roll call again. Feel free guys to come over and keep me company!! :)

I know that you are going on the Jewel, when are you going? I am trying to plan something special for my partners 40th birthday, a nice cruise may just fit the bill.

You have probably seen my post on the main roll call that we had to cancel this cruise:(. We are now doing an 18 night Panama Canal with HAL over Christmas and New Years, with 2 of our best friends, so there will be 5 family at least :). As much as I love NCL, I'd like to try other lines. I've heard HAL has very good service and food and they also have open dining which is all good, but it may be a little more formal and not as lively. While I'm no party animal, it is nice to meet engaging folks in a laid back environment. So far our roll call only has 2 couples (and this is on the main board)! Although HAL roll calls don't tend to be as lively (though many NCL roll calls are pretty quiet too), so I really don't think that is an indication of how much fun we'll have :D. I figure you can't go wrong with just about any vacation on a boat (as long as there aren't homophobes )!

Pricing is very good on this 18 night cruise. Not sure what your availability is, but you might want to check it out. Dec 21, Statendam.

Johnathan - Good luck with the new sailing choice! I had been thinking of switching the sailing as well but staying with NCL. I learned recently that my week schedule had changed and I now have two full weeks off where I thought I only had one full week for school. We'll see what happens. So far it looks like I'm keeping with the Jewel but may add on a Dawn sailing which turns around in Miami the same day or stay and catch the Sky out the next day. :D Good luck with HAL!

Thanks for the wishes of Good Luck, a good time will be enjoyed. Its just always nice when you can meet up with people of "common Interest" thats all, makes it all a bit more enjoyable.

I will let you know how it turns out when we return. We have now added on the two night extension to the private island! We just dont want to get off that ship

I agree 100% on that one. I know of 1 gay couple on our upcoming 18 night cruise, but that's it so far. The HAL boards are nowhere near as active as the NCL ones.:(

Actually I don't really care if someone is gay or straight. Our friends at home are about 50-50...perhaps leaning more to the straight side.

What the FoD meetings give us is a forum to meet people that we know want to meet and hang out with others. Without that, I'm not so sure I'd go up to someone in a bar, or anywhere for that matter, and just start talking to them. :o I have no trouble doing that at FoD gatherings. Maybe that is my hang up  and I may be forced to exercise that given that I don't think I'll be relying on FoD so much on our upcoming cruise.

I agree with you there, we have the same ratio of friends at home as well, in this case we are traveling with a group of straight people, so on the off chance you can meet another couple or even some singles that you can hang out with from time to time its nice.

Hey there!

Don't forget to come back here and post a review when you are done

Have a safe trip and bon voyage!

~Jake

I second that :D

We have a FCC that is about to expire so I've been looking for our next NCL cruise. Just starting to look at the EPIC as a possibility. Personally I'd like to fit something else in during 2010 but my usual cruising partners don't have as as much time off as me, so I'm kinda stuck since I'm not apt to cruise solo.

I know we are going to have a good time, and we will report back. Was jut hoping there we would be more than just the two of us, thats going to be a dull FOD meeting! ....LOL

We are looking at the Epic for October 2010, we like to go October/November due to my partners work schedule. It looks like a great trip, we are looking at the 14 night, but its also being sold as a 7 night either Eastern or Western

I'm sure there will be others that show up ad FOD that have never heard of CC. You can educate them for future :D

We've done a few October cruises and find they are really bad timing, so I'm pushing for a new tradition of mid-winter breaks to get away from the cold Canadian north that we live in. I'd love to do one Feb or Mar 2010, but so close on the heels of our Christmas/New Years cruise that I know the others can't fit it in.

I have 2 extra weeks of vacation that I have to burn before the end of March 2010. I'd love to do a cruise. Maybe I should check out the singles board and see if I could find someone compatible to cruise with. However being a people-person, it isn't just about sharing costs, but sharing company at ports, meals, and entertainment.

I've been looking for people to go on the Epic in January 2011! Haven't found anyone going then yet though. I love cruising but it's my school schedule that prohibits me from sailing as much as I'd like. 2 cruises back to back in January will have to tie me over until May unless I sneak one in during my late spring break this upcoming March 2010.

I can't wait for mine but we just have to make sure FJS gets the Jewel over here in one piece!! :p:D Can I go??

Hey Jake, do you look for friends/family to share a cabin with, or anyone that wants share costs and possibly hang out with? If the latter, how do you go about finding someone compatible?

I don't know how you manage to find the time and $$ to go on so many cruises while in school. Lucky you!

I spoke to my TA yesterday about my FCC and she put the idea of the Epic in my head for early 2011 and am strongly considering it.

The prices dropped recently for my sailing in January as well. I know the Jewel doesn't have the Ultra Bliss Lounge that the Pearl has with the bowling alleys but there's more to this than meets the eye. I think the itinerary is raising the eyebrows since it goes to Mexico and the media went crazy about them being swine flu infected people. Honduras has a political situation so yeah it's a bit of a catch 22 on getting people to book. There's still plenty of space on my sailing. Yours, however, doesn't get impacted by these issues so lucky you!! :D I don't care if I don't get off the ship. She's beautiful and I'll be glad to spend more time on her than just 2 sea days in a 12-day trip!!

I'd love to go but alas school prohibits me from going!! I'm confident you'll get her to the East Coast without issue! ;)
