Which would you do? We will be in Nassau on Sat. 7/25 from 8 a.m until 6 p.m. Paradise Island will have the Junkanoo Festival. Sheridan/Wyndham offers beach, amenities & buffet. Is it possible to do both?

The Junkanoo Festival is in Nassau near the Dock.. no at Paradise Island.

It' starts at noon and runs thru the evening.

You could go the the beach (even one of the public beaches) in the morning.. then head back downtown and grab a "native" lunch at one of the 30 or so food vendors downtown. Check out the local bands, crafts, contests etc before heading back on board.

Thanks so much scubagirl. One more question. Is it better to go to a free beach like Cabbage beach or go to beach at Sheridan/Wyndham?

Is the Junkanoo festival only on Sat 7/25 or is it on that Sunday too?

Junkanoo Summer Festival: Nassau/Paradise Island

July 04, 2009 - July 25, 2009

The Junkanoo Summer Festival is an excellent opportunity for visitors to have a close encounter with authentic Bahamian culture. It will feature:

− Live Bahamian Bands

− Traditional Dances

− Authentic Bahamian Craft Items

− The Best Bahamian Cuisine

− Kids' Games and Activities

− Limbo and Fire Dancing

The festival will be held 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m every Saturday in July (4th, 11th, 18th, 25th), on Woodes Rogers Walk, overlooking Nassau Harbour

If you're just gonna spend a few hours and don't need a place to eat and restrooms, then I suggest either Cabbage Beach or Junkanoo (lighthouse) beach just outside of downtown. Then head back to town for lunch, and the festivities. No need to pay for a resort if you don't need a pool, bar and grill.
