startraveler Posted November 16, 2009 #26 Share Posted November 16, 2009 A Canadian woman visiting family in Kenya was refused exit because her lips didn't look the same as in her photo on her passport. She was even jailed. Took a DNA test and 6 weeks to get her back to Canada. Janette Then the question is: How did she get _in_ to Kenya? Didn't their Immigration look at her passport when she arrived?
Karysa Posted November 16, 2009 #27 Share Posted November 16, 2009 Amazing weight loss, good for you. This story is not to scare you but to inform you about what happened to a misfortunate Canadian lady who traveled to Africa and upon leaving it was noted that she did not look like her passport picture. Unfortunately, she was detained and it has been noted that when the Canadian government got involved and the lady could not answer questions about where she lived in Canada like they thought she should, she was detained for a total of 3 months before a DNA test confirmed who she actually was. Can you spell SETTLEMENT!!
Ethel5 Posted November 16, 2009 #28 Share Posted November 16, 2009 Erma Bombeck famously said that when you look like your passport picture, it's time to go home! I still miss her. :)
pg. Posted November 16, 2009 #29 Share Posted November 16, 2009 Wow,, I would be more careful,, now mind you may not be of color, but didn't anyone read about the poor Canadian citizen who was thrown in prison in some African country when she tried to return from a visit becuase the passport control at the airport there decided she did not look enough like her passport. It was a horrible case.
Mrs.C05 Posted November 16, 2009 #30 Share Posted November 16, 2009 My husband and I do NOT look anything like our passport photos. I'm about 30 pounds lighter and my husband is about 100 pounds lighter. We haven't had a problem yet but we do have our DL on us just in case. G'ma Posted November 16, 2009 #31 Share Posted November 16, 2009 You should have no problem at all. Keep in mind that customs officials are professionals and do this every day, day in and day out. I'm confident that they use certain "points" of identification when comparing photos...not just what the passenger looks like compared to the photo. I'm sure they've run into attempts at fraudulent pictures, passports, etc., and can probably spot these things at a glance. You'll be fine. And, congratulations.........
