Copper Lanterns Posted July 18, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2009 Have decided that the best way to call home is with a calling card. Do not know where to start looking for the best card. Any suggestions? Thanks Connie
Fblack Posted July 18, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2009 Using a cell phone or pre-paid calling card from Greece is a bit more expensive than calling from France or the UK. ATT and Verizon Wireless charge about 99 cents to call home from the UK, but $1.29 and 1.49 from Greece. And if you buy a calling card, say an ATT pre-paid phone card, they usually quote domestic rates for the U.S. So a 100 minute phone card that includes international calling back to the US may only give you 33 minutes of actual call time. And some cards charge a fee to use a pay phone, some you need a coin to activate the pay phone, and some charge extra to call a cell phone. Bottom line, just do a little extra homework before you buy a card.
Fafos Posted July 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2009 Chronokarta.... you can find in any kiosk: Telephone calls wherever you want, without charging the phone from which you call. Use from any fixed telephone, even from a public card phone or payphone. Use from abroad in order to make calls to Greece. Provides information for the available amount in your card whenever you want and you control the duration of your call. Possibility to share the same card with the people you chose (up to five persons if there is adequate available amount). You can find it anywhere. Free speaking time, since Chronokarta offers you extra time to talk free of charge, depending on the card that you chose. 6 euros Chronokarta: 280 minutes to USA, Canada (if you speak for example 2 min. and 20 seconds, this time is 3 minutes for card)
Copper Lanterns Posted July 19, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted July 19, 2009 Thanks for the information. Is it possible to purchase the Chronokarta in the US? Have you heard of the Telekarta? Is it as easy to purchase in Greece? They say it is easier to use because you can put it in the phone and not have to follow instructions that could be in a different language. What is your opinion? Thanks :D Connie
