Is it better to take 78 straight in or 80? Distance to either interstate for us is the same. We are about a 2 hr drive from the port. Is 78 through Newark congested?

No.78 passes Newark to the south but just north of Newark airport.Go through the toll booth for NJ turnpike and exit at 14A Bayonne.Follow the signs to 440 South The Cruise port is on your left off of 440.

We're driving in from Canada. Is there a hotel nearby the port that offers long term parking?

there are several by EWR airport with park n fly rates.

 

you can take a taxi or car service to the pier...about 30 minutes and 40-50 USD. (same for car or cab)
