calliesocks Posted July 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2009 :confused:We are doing the northbound on Celebrity in August 2010 but we want to go to Denali afterwards. Since neither of us have been on a train before we want to do the train there. Question is, are the ways to get around Denali w/o a car? We want to do the TWT tour. Do most of the hotels have shuttles to and from the park and or train station? Would love any input. Thanks
Budget Queen Posted July 20, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2009 Frankly, if you are on Celebrity, the most scenic portion of the Alaska RR is Anchorage/Seward. Simple to include for you. Spend the day touring Seward then take the 6pm train. Then RENT a car for Denali. The Anchorage/Denali segment, is 8 hours, and way down the "scenery" scale compared to Seward/Anchorage. Without McKinley viewing, it is a lot of trees and more trees. This section also just about parallels the Parks Highway, it is superior to take the road, in my experience having done both many times. The train, needs an added day, in my opinion, so 3 nights at Denali Park. Many hotels at Denali Park do offer transportation to/from the rail depot, visitor center, and access center. Also consider the shuttle buses into Denali Park. Superior for getting farther, significant savings.
