byefairwind Posted May 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2004 I would say 4 1/2 hours. Depends on traffic and how fast you drive though. Empress of the Seas

funduo Posted May 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Its about 250 miles. Traffic and time will reflect vast differences in time. Could take from 4.5 hours to 7. Rush hours in NJ and NY are as bad as rt 128 (at least thats what i remember about 128 5 years ago. judyf Posted May 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Try mapquest.com it will give you a real good idea of time and pretty good directions. That's what I did. Moondawgie Posted May 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Sherry, I have done it in 4-1/2 hours. I think I clocked abour 300 miles. Traffic can be bad around the NY area. I hope you are coming in the night before so your trip will be relaxed. You might consider going over the Tappan Zee Bridge into NY Thruway and down the NJ Turnpike. It is more miles, but less hassle. sherryberry71 Posted May 10, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Funduo: 128 still stinks at times. I work up in Middleton, MA, so I am opposite the traffic in the morning in the afternoon (THANK GOODNESS!) judyf: I had mapped it out on Mapquest and it showed 4 hours 1 minute, but just wasnt sure how true that was...Thanks though...If we do do it, I will travel off hours I think!! ~SherryBerry~ Adventurer OTS 2/2004 Yippee! Robinob Posted May 11, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2004 When in July? We are going on VOS on July 16th from Bayonne, NJ. It will be about 4 1/2 hours for you and you should hook up on the NJ Tpk. (95) Until my next cruise.
blueberry Posted May 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 11, 2004 If you are thinking about sailing on the Empress RCCL is running a special for ct, mA and RI- free bus service. We paid for a bus last year when sailing out of NY. It was much less of a hassle than driving. FOr free it is also less expensive than parking!!!!! sherryberry71 Posted May 11, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Robinob: Yes, that is the one I am looking at (July 16th Voyager)... Moondawgie: Thanks..I think we will do the night before..Late night. Will drop the kiddos at Grandpa's, and leave the Boston area probably around 9 or 10 pm just to avoid traffic and hopefully find a cheap motel for a few hours :-)) ~SherryBerry~ Adventurer OTS 2/2004 Yippee!
