Machu Pichu

Pachu Pichu was discovered on this day in 1911.

It is difficult to believe that I visited there in 1953, closer to its discovery than to today. Visitors today have more ammenities, hotels to choose from, tours and other activities. When I visited there was one "good" hotel. They turned the hot water on for 2 hours after tourists left on the train, and again for 2 hours about the time it got back. A fireplace in the lobby is the only heat I can remember (South American winter), but llama wool blankets are amazingly warm. I met a girl and took her to the movies, it was so cold, we didn't stay for the 2nd feature.

My DD was there with her family 3 years ago, and they all had a wonderful time. If any of you are fortunate enough to get a chance to go, don't miss it.
