Why eight consecutive sea days?

We were looking at Singapore to Athens. We both like sea days, but it takes Quest eight days to get from Dubai to Alexandria and that could be a bit much all at once. I would think the ship can do it in half that time. Does anybody know why it takes so long?

Aside from Nutrioso's idea (which is a good one as they should for safety travel in the 500 mile Recommended Transit Corridor patrolled by world-wide Naval vessels in the Gulf of Aden), plus it is a lot of miles from Dubai to Alexandria. Then there is the schedule to travel through the Suez Canal (which can take 15 hours) and get over to Alexandria once they are in the Mediterranean. Better to allow plenty of time than not. I am sure it is not a frivilous choice.

The distance by sea between Dubai and Alexandria is 3047 nautical miles (via Suez). At 18 knots (as an example) and without allowing any reduction in speed for any reason this journey would take a little over 7 days, so there isn't much leeway. Most people don't realise how far it actually is between these points.
