Looney4cruising Posted December 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 24, 2004 I need some info on the Sea. Any pics and your feelings about sailing on this ship... Thanks
Dolphins Posted December 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 24, 2004 Nice smaller ship, good food and service in Seven Seas restaurant. No balcony cabins so we got an outside cabin on the promenade deck only to find there were no lounge chairs on the promenade deck (only benches containing life jackets). Much prefer the Dawn with its many balcony cabins, numerous dining options and many lounge chairs on the promenade deck.
amunhotep Posted December 24, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 24, 2004 Hello, fellow southwest Missourian. We live in Springfield and were on the inagural voyage of the Sea (then Seaward) in June of 1988, and are now scheduled to sail on her in on New Years Day, just 8 days away. If there is any specific things you want to know about the ship, please reply here and we will be glad to tell you. The Sea is one of the oldest of the NCL fleet still in service. Cabins tend to be small by comparison but are not claustraphobic. Nearly all cabins are the same size with exception of Cat CC and Suites. There are no balconies and some of the outside cabins have obstructed views, due to life boats. The ship is easy to get around, two main dining areas, 2 specialty resturants, 1 buffet style eating area, several bars both on the sun and pool deck area and a piano bar. The theater is a little "tight" for space. This is NOT a mega ship, more intimate, good crew-passenger ratio. The Texaribbean cruise out of Houston tends to be one of the cheaper 7 day cruises offered. This is to be the last year in US waters, being scheduled to be transfered to the far east in mid-2005. We will be happy to share digital pics when we return after Jan 8. The Smith's Springfield, MO
mikefast Posted December 24, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 24, 2004 I have a few pics of the ship and the ports of call from the cruise we took just a year ago. They are at http://www.picturetrail.com/mikefast2 Scroll down to NCL cruise. There are two albums there of this cruise. Like was said, it is not a mega ship, and an older one. The food in the buffet area is not laid out very will, and there was a shortage of places to sit down and eat there. Except for Lobster night, the food in the main restaurant was quite good. The entertainment too was quite good. They were a little slow in getting our room ready, in fact it wasn't made up till almost 10 that night. We still enjoyed the cruise a lot, and for the price was an excellent value.

terryteacher Posted December 29, 2004 #12 Share Posted December 29, 2004 Here's the link to our pictures. Showers were way too small, but for price...outstanding ports. We missed Cancun...don't count on making it into port. Paradise Beach, Cozumel; Bay Islands Beach Resort, Roatan; flew Maya Air to Ambergris Caye, Belize Food was fine. I tried to talk my kids into going to Le Bistro. they refused to pay extra. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/t.zablocki@sbcglobal.net/album?.dir=/205d&.src=ph&.tok=phpKdRCBTC4997vV

ute_fan Posted December 29, 2004 #14 Share Posted December 29, 2004 Our first cruise was on the Sea, and I will always regret that we weren't able to make a return trip before she is transferred to Asia. My main complaint is that I have become addicted to cruising as a result of this cruise -- it's going to end up being a very expensive habit! The rooms are small, the bathrooms are tiny, but there was plenty of storage space for clothing and luggage. I was glad we were on a smaller ship for our 1st cruise, as we found it easy to navigate around the ship. We thought the food and entertainment were both very good. Have a wonderful time! Looney4cruising Posted December 29, 2004 Author #15 Share Posted December 29, 2004 ute_fan: Thanks for your input. Have been worried about the mixed reviews that this ship was getting but have decided to experience a smaller cozier atmosphere. And we love the itinerary. houtexme Posted December 30, 2004 #16 Share Posted December 30, 2004 You won't be disappointed. I have sailed on the Sea twice and plan to go one last time before she leaves Texas. Excellent food, service, shows, drinks, casino, et al. The cabins are small. I started on the first cruise on Deck 2 and it was really small cabin. Last cruise in September, 2004, was in a CC cabin. More room but no noticeable difference in the service. Still excellent. Smiles everywhere on the crew. The Sea is a great little ship and I hate to see her leave Texas. The ports cannot be beat. We made Cancun on both trips, so who knows????

runner1909 Posted December 31, 2004 #21 Share Posted December 31, 2004 We've sailed on the bigger ships but still like the intimacy of the smaller ones best. We sailed the Sea in June and are going again in March.

houtexme Posted January 3, 2005 #25 Share Posted January 3, 2005 I don't believe you'll get to cruise on the Sea in June. As far as I know, the ship leaves Houston in April never to return to U. S. waters. Wish it weren't so, but I think it is.
