Extra Seat Luggage Question

If you have purchased and extra seat are you allowed to have the luggage allowance for that seat? We are flying United and have called them several times and have gotten several different replies from yes to no to only 1 extra suitcase.

Has anyone ever done this and what has your experience been?

Thanks for any info.:):)

Over on the cruise air board this question has been thoroughly vetted. The all round consensus is that luggage (checked and carry-on) allowances are per person, not per seat. So when you purchase a seat for your cello (as cellists are wont to do) the cello does not have a luggage allowance, merely a seat. Issues of "it's not fair" are not relevant, that's simply how airlines operate. If anyone DOES receive an extra luggage allowance for the extra seat, now that would be news.

Thanks for the info. The only reason I asked was on United luggage policy is states that it luggage allowance is per ticket purchased and have been getting conflicting answers. Below is what is stated

Baggage fees and allowances

Checked baggage policies apply per seat, so any checked baggage allowances will be multiplied by the number of tickets purchased. Baggage fees can also be distributed among the ticketed seats. For example, instead of paying first and second bag fees for two checked bags, a customer with two ticketed seats could instead pay two first bag fees.
